കേരള രാഷ്ട്രീയത്തിലെ ബൗദ്ധിക മുഖവും മികച്ച പാര്‍ലമെന്റേറിയനുമായാണ് വി.ഡി. സതീശന്‍ രേഖപ്പെടുത്തപ്പെടുന്നത്. കെ.എസ്.യു-വിലൂടെ രാഷ്ട്രീയത്തില്‍ എത്തിയ അദ്ദേഹം കോണ്‍ഗ്രസിന്റെ മുന്‍നിര നേതാവായി വളരുകയായിരുന്നു.

2001 മുതല്‍ തുടര്‍ച്ചയായി ആറ് തവണ പറവൂര്‍ മണ്ഡലത്തില്‍ നിന്ന് നിയമസഭയിലേക്ക് തിരഞ്ഞെടുക്കപ്പെട്ടു. 2021ലെ തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പ് പരാജയത്തിന് ശേഷം പ്രതിപക്ഷ നേതൃസ്ഥാനം ഏറ്റെടുത്ത അദ്ദേഹം, കോണ്‍ഗ്രസിനെ പുനരുജ്ജീവിപ്പിക്കുന്നതില്‍ നിര്‍ണ്ണായക പങ്കുവഹിച്ചു. എ.ഐ കാമറ വിവാദം, കെ-റെയില്‍ തുടങ്ങിയ വിഷയങ്ങളില്‍ സര്‍ക്കാരിനെതിരായ പോരാട്ടങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് അദ്ദേഹം നേതൃത്വം നല്‍കി.

കോണ്‍ഗ്രസിലെ തലമുറമാറ്റത്തിന് നേതൃത്വം നല്‍കിയ അദ്ദേഹം, 140-ല്‍ 102 സീറ്റുകള്‍ നേടി യു.ഡി.എഫിനെ ഭരണത്തിലേക്ക് തിരികെ എത്തിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു.

നിയമസഭയില്‍ കണക്കുകളും രേഖകളും സഹിതം സംസാരിക്കുന്ന 'പഠിക്കുന്ന രാഷ്ട്രീയക്കാരന്‍' എന്നാണ് അദ്ദേഹത്തെ വിശേഷിപ്പിക്കാറുള്ളത്. വര്‍ഗീയതയോട് വിട്ടുവീഴ്ചയില്ലാത്ത നിലപാട് സ്വീകരിക്കുന്ന അദ്ദേഹം, മതേതര വോട്ടുകള്‍ ഏകോപിപ്പിക്കുന്നതില്‍ വിജയിച്ചു.

കോണ്‍ഗ്രസിനെ ഒരു 'സെമി കേഡര്‍' സ്വഭാവത്തിലേക്ക് മാറ്റുന്നതിനും ഗ്രൂപ്പ് രാഷ്ട്രീയത്തിന് അതീതമായി പാര്‍ട്ടിയെ നയിക്കുന്നതിനും അദ്ദേഹം ശ്രമിച്ചു.

മുഖ്യമന്ത്രി എന്ന നിലയില്‍ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് മുന്നില്‍ പ്രധാനമായും മൂന്ന് വെല്ലുവിളികളാണുള്ളത്:

💧 മുസ്ലിം ലീഗ് ഉള്‍പ്പെടെയുള്ള യു.ഡി.എഫ് ഘടകകക്ഷികളെ മന്ത്രിസഭയില്‍ തൃപ്തികരമായി ഉള്‍ക്കൊള്ളിക്കുക.

💧 10 വര്‍ഷത്തെ എല്‍.ഡി.എഫ് ഭരണത്തിന് ശേഷം വരുന്ന മാറ്റമായതിനാല്‍ ജനങ്ങളുടെ ഉയര്‍ന്ന പ്രതീക്ഷകള്‍ക്കനുസരിച്ച് പ്രവര്‍ത്തിക്കുക.

Summary: V.D. Satheesan is marked as the intellectual face and an exceptional parliamentarian of Kerala politics. Having entered politics through the Kerala Students Union (KSU), he rose to become a frontline leader of the Congress party.

He served as the University Union Chairman and the National Secretary of the NSUI.

Since 2001, he has been elected to the Legislative Assembly from the Paravur constituency for six consecutive terms.

After the electoral defeat in 2021, he took over as the Leader of the Opposition and played a decisive role in revitalizing the Congress. He spearheaded the struggles against the government on issues such as the AI Camera controversy and the K-Rail project.

Leading the generational shift within the Congress, he successfully brought the UDF back to power by securing 102 out of 140 seats.

He is often described as a "studious politician" who speaks in the Assembly equipped with facts, figures, and documents. By maintaining an uncompromising stance against communalism, he succeeded in consolidating secular votes. He also strived to transition the Congress into a "semi-cadre" structure and lead the party beyond traditional group politics.
