തിരുവനന്തപുരം: മാസപ്പടി കേസില്‍ പ്രതിപക്ഷ നേതാവ് പിണറായി വിജയന്റെ തിരുവനന്തപുരത്തെ വസതിയില്‍റെയ്ഡ് നടത്തിയ വേളയില്‍ എന്‍ഫോഴ്സ്മെന്റ് ഡയറക്ടറേറ്റ് (ഇ.ഡി.) ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥരെയും അവരുടെ വാഹനങ്ങളെയും ആക്രമിച്ച കേസില്‍ സി.പി.എം. പാളയം ലോക്കല്‍ സെക്രട്ടറിയും കോര്‍പ്പറേഷന്‍ മുന്‍ കൗണ്‍സിലറുമായ ഐ.പി. ബിനു അറസ്റ്റില്‍. കേസില്‍ ബിനുവാണ് ഒന്നാം പ്രതി.

തമ്പാനൂരിലെ ഒരു ഹോട്ടലില്‍ ഒളിച്ചു താമസിക്കുകയായിരുന്ന ബിനുവിനെ ഫോണ്‍ ട്രാക് ചെയ്തു പിടികൂടുകയായിരുന്നുവെന്നു പൊലീസ് പറഞ്ഞു. എന്നാല്‍, പിടികൂടിയതല്ല, താന്‍ കീഴടങ്ങുകയായിരുന്നുവെന്നു ബിനു പിന്നീട് ഫേസ് ബുക്കില്‍ എഴുതി.

പരിശോധന പൂര്‍ത്തിയാക്കി മടങ്ങുകയായിരുന്ന ഇ.ഡി. അസിസ്റ്റന്റ് ഡയറക്ടര്‍ സനത് റെഡ്ഡി ഉള്‍പ്പെടുന്ന സംഘത്തിന് നേരെയാണ് തിരുവനന്തപുരത്തു വച്ച് സി.പി.എം - ഡി.വൈ.എഫ്.ഐ. പ്രവര്‍ത്തകര്‍  ആക്രമണം അഴിച്ചുവിട്ടത്.

ഇ.ഡി. ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥര്‍ സഞ്ചരിച്ചിരുന്ന വാഹനങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് നേരെ നടന്ന ആക്രമണങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് നേതൃത്വം നല്‍കിയത് ഐ.പി. ബിനുവാണെന്ന് പൊലീസ് കണ്ടെത്തിയിരുന്നു. സുരക്ഷാ ചുമതലയിലുണ്ടായിരുന്ന പൊലീസ് ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥര്‍ നോക്കിനില്‍ക്കെ ഇ.ഡി. ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥരുടെ കാറിന് നേരെ ബിനു മുട്ട എറിയുന്ന ദൃശ്യങ്ങള്‍ മാധ്യമങ്ങളിലൂടെയും സി.സി.ടി.വി. വഴിയും വ്യാപകമായി പ്രചരിച്ചിരുന്നു.

സംഭവത്തിന് ശേഷം പൊലീസ് തിരച്ചില്‍ ശക്തമാക്കിയതോടെ ബിനു ഒളിവില്‍ പോവുകയായിരുന്നു. ബിനുവിന്റെയും മറ്റൊരു മുന്‍ കൗണ്‍സിലറായ ആറ്റുകാല്‍ ഉണ്ണിയുടെയും വീടുകളില്‍ പൊലീസ് പരിശോധന നടത്തിയിരുന്നു. 

ഇ.ഡി. ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥരെ ആക്രമിച്ച കേസില്‍ മ്യൂസിയം പൊലീസ് വധശ്രമം, നിയമവിരുദ്ധമായി സംഘം ചേരല്‍, പൊതുമുതല്‍ നശിപ്പിക്കല്‍ തുടങ്ങിയ ഗുരുതരമായ വകുപ്പുകള്‍ ചുമത്തി കണ്ടാലറിയാവുന്ന മുന്നൂറോളം (300) പേര്‍ക്കെതിരെയാണ് കേസ് രജിസ്റ്റര്‍ ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നത്.

ആക്രമണത്തില്‍ ഇ.ഡി. ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥനായ ഡിക്‌സന്‍ ഡേവിഡിനും ഡ്രൈവര്‍ ശ്യാമിനും പരിക്കേറ്റിരുന്നു. വടികളും കല്ലുകളും ഇരുമ്പ് ദണ്ഡുകളും ഇഷ്ടികകളും ഉപയോഗിച്ചായിരുന്നു ആക്രമണം. 'കൊല്ലെടാ' എന്ന് ആക്രോശിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് പ്രതികള്‍ അക്രമം നടത്തിയെന്നാണ് ഇ.ഡി. ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥര്‍ നല്‍കിയ മൊഴിയില്‍ പറയുന്നത്.

ഐ.പി. ബിനുവിനെ കൂടാതെ ഡി.വൈ.എഫ്.ഐ. നേതാക്കള്‍ ഉള്‍പ്പെടെ എട്ടിലധികം പേര്‍ ഇതിനകം തന്നെ കേസില്‍ അറസ്റ്റിലായിട്ടുണ്ട്. വട്ടിയൂര്‍ക്കാവ് സ്വദേശി അനില്‍, നരുവാമൂട് സ്വദേശി കിരണ്‍, കോട്ടയത്ത് നിന്ന് പിടികൂടിയ അമല്‍ എന്നിവരും അറസ്റ്റിലായവരില്‍ ഉള്‍പ്പെടുന്നു. അക്രമത്തില്‍ പങ്കെടുത്ത മറ്റുള്ളവര്‍ക്കായി പൊലീസ് വ്യാപകമായ അന്വേഷണം തുടരുകയാണ്.

Summary: CPM Palayam Local Secretary and former Corporation Councilor IP Binu has been arrested in the case involving the attack on Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials and their vehicles during a raid at the Thiruvananthapuram residence of Opposition Leader Pinarayi Vijayan in connection with the monthly payoff case. Binu is the prime accused in the case.

According to the police, Binu, who was hiding in a hotel in Thampanoor, was apprehended after tracking his phone. However, Binu later stated on Facebook that he was not caught but had surrendered voluntarily.

A mob of CPM and DYFI workers unleashed an attack in Thiruvananthapuram against the team led by ED Assistant Director Sanath Reddy, who were returning after completing their inspection.

The police had found that IP Binu led the attacks against the vehicles carrying the ED officials. Visuals of Binu throwing eggs at the ED officials' car, while the police personnel deployed for security looked on, were widely circulated through the media and CCTV footage.

Binu went into hiding after the police intensified their search following the incident. The police had also conducted searches at the residences of Binu and another former councilor, Attukal Unni.

The Museum Police have registered a case against nearly 300 identifiable individuals, slapping non-bailable charges including attempt to murder, unlawful assembly, and destruction of public property.

ED official Dixon David and driver Shyam were injured in the attack, which was carried out using sticks, stones, iron rods, and bricks. In their statements to the police, the ED officials mentioned that the attackers unleashed violence while shouting "Kill them!"

Apart from IP Binu, more than eight people, including DYFI leaders, have already been arrested in the case. Those arrested include Anil, a native of Vattiyoorkavu; Kiran, a native of Naruvamoodu; and Amal, who was apprehended from Kottayam. The police are continuing a widespread investigation to track down the remaining participants in the attack.
