കൊല്ലം: അന്തരീക്ഷ താപനില 40 ഡിഗ്രി സെല്ഷ്യസ് വരെ ഉയരാന് സാധ്യതയുള്ളതിനാല്, സുരക്ഷാ മുന്കരുതലിന്റെ ഭാഗമായി കൊല്ലം കളക്ടര് നാളെ (2026 ഏപ്രില് 24, വെള്ളി) ജില്ലയിലെ എല്ലാ വിദ്യാഭ്യാസ സ്ഥാപനങ്ങള്ക്കും അവധി പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചു. പ്രൊഫഷണല് കോളേജുകള് ഉള്പ്പെടെയുള്ള എല്ലാ വിദ്യാഭ്യാസ സ്ഥാപനങ്ങള്ക്കും അവധി ബാധകമാണ്. മുന്കൂട്ടി നിശ്ചയിച്ചിട്ടുള്ള പൊതുപരീക്ഷകള്ക്കും അഭിമുഖങ്ങള്ക്കും മാറ്റമുണ്ടായിരിക്കില്ല.

Temperatures May Rise to 40°C; Holiday Declared for Educational Institutions in Kollam District
KOLLAM: Due to the possibility of atmospheric temperatures rising up to 40°C, the Kollam District Collector has declared a holiday for all educational institutions in the district tomorrow (Friday, April 24, 2026) as a safety precaution. This holiday applies to all educational institutions, including professional colleges. However, there will be no change to previously scheduled public examinations and interviews.
As summer intensifies across the state, the Central Meteorological Department has warned of heatwave-like conditions in Palakkad, Kollam, and Thrissur districts. In many places, temperatures are likely to rise 3 to 5 degrees above normal.
Safety Measures
Avoid Direct Sunlight: Avoid direct exposure to the sun between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM. Outdoor work and travel during this time should be restricted as much as possible.
Hydration: Drink plenty of water even if you don't feel thirsty. To prevent dehydration, use ORS solution, salted rice water (kanji vellam), lemon water, or buttermilk. Avoid alcohol, coffee, tea, and carbonated drinks during the day.
Clothing: Wear lightweight, light-colored cotton clothes. Always carry an umbrella and footwear when going outside.
Ventilation: Ensure proper airflow inside homes and workplaces. Never leave children or pets inside vehicles parked in the sun.
Special Care: The elderly, children, pregnant women, and those with serious illnesses should take extra care to avoid sun exposure.
