തിരുവനന്തപുരം സ്വദേശികളായ അമ്മയും മകളും ചെറുമക്കളും കൊച്ചിയിലെ വാടക വീട്ടില്‍ മരിച്ച നിലയില്‍, കുട്ടികളെ കിടത്തിയിരുന്നത് പുതു വസ്ത്രങ്ങളും സണ്‍ ഗ്‌ളാസും ധരിപ്പിച്ച്

കൊച്ചി: വടുതലയില്‍ തിരുവനന്തപുരം വിളപ്പില്‍ശാല സ്വദേശികളായ ഒരു കുടുംബത്തിലെ അഞ്ചുപേരെ വാടകവീട്ടില്‍ മരിച്ച നിലയില്‍ കണ്ടെത്തി. ശ്രീകുമാരി (59), മകള്‍ അശ്വതി എസ്. നായര്‍ (37), അശ്വതിയുടെ മക്കളായ കര്‍ണിവന്‍ (14), കീര്‍ത്തിവന്‍ (10), അക്ഷിത (2) എന്നിവരാണ് മരിച്ച നിലയില്‍ കാണപ്പെട്ടത്. 

ഇവര്‍ രണ്ടുമാസം മുമ്പാണ് വടുതല കര്‍ഷക റോഡിലെ ഗ്രീന്‍ ഗാര്‍ഡനിലുള്ള വീട്ടില്‍ വാടകയ്ക്ക് താമസിക്കാന്‍ എത്തിയത്. ബൗദ്ധിക വെല്ലുവിളി നേരിടുന്ന മകന്റെ ചികിത്സയുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ടാണ് ഇവര്‍ കൊച്ചിയിലെത്തിയത്.

മൂന്നു ദിവസമായി വീട്ടുകാരെ പുറത്തുകാണാത്തതിനെത്തുടര്‍ന്ന് അയല്‍വാസികളും വീട്ടുടമസ്ഥന്റെ ബന്ധുക്കളും നടത്തിയ അന്വേഷണത്തിലാണ് സംഭവം പുറത്തറിയുന്നത്.

ശ്രീകുമാരിയെയും അശ്വതിയെയും തൂങ്ങിമരിച്ച നിലയിലാണ് കണ്ടെത്തിയത്. മൃതദേഹങ്ങള്‍ അസ്വാഭാവികമായ രീതിയിലാണ് കിടത്തിയിരുന്നത്. ഇളയ രണ്ട് കുട്ടികള്‍ക്ക് പുതിയ വസ്ത്രങ്ങളും സണ്‍ഗ്ലാസും ധരിപ്പിച്ച് കട്ടിലില്‍ കിടത്തിയ നിലയിലായിരുന്നു. മൂത്ത കുട്ടിയെ ഷെര്‍വാണി ധരിപ്പിച്ച് മറ്റൊരു മുറിയില്‍ നിലത്ത് ബെഡ്ഷീറ്റ് വിരിച്ചു കിടത്തിയിരുന്നു.

വീട്ടില്‍ നിന്ന് ആത്മഹത്യാക്കുറിപ്പ് പോലീസ് കണ്ടെടുത്തിട്ടുണ്ട്. എട്ടുമാസം മുമ്പ് അശ്വതിയുടെ ഭര്‍ത്താവ് ആത്മഹത്യ ചെയ്തിരുന്നു. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് കരള്‍ രോഗമുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. ഭര്‍ത്താവിന്റെ മരണവുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട് ബന്ധുക്കളില്‍ നിന്നും നാട്ടുകാരില്‍ നിന്നും ഉണ്ടായ കുറ്റപ്പെടുത്തലുകളും മാനസികമായ ഒറ്റപ്പെടലുമാണ് ഈ കടുംകൈ ചെയ്യാന്‍ പ്രേരിപ്പിച്ചതെന്നാണ് അശ്വതി എഴുതിയ കുറിപ്പില്‍ പറയുന്നത്.  'ഭര്‍ത്താവിന്റെ അടുത്തേക്ക് പോകുന്നു' എന്നും കുറിപ്പിലുണ്ട്.

ഇവര്‍ക്ക് സാമ്പത്തിക ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടുകള്‍ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ലെന്നും 35,000 രൂപ മാസവാടകയുള്ള വീട്ടിലാണ് താമസിച്ചിരുന്നതെന്നും പോലീസ് പറഞ്ഞു.

എറണാകുളം ടൗണ്‍ നോര്‍ത്ത് പോലീസ് കേസെടുത്ത് അന്വേഷണം ആരംഭിച്ചു. കുട്ടികള്‍ക്ക് വിഷം നല്‍കിയ ശേഷം മുതിര്‍ന്നവര്‍ ആത്മഹത്യ ചെയ്തതാകാമെന്നാണ് പ്രാഥമിക നിഗമനം. അയല്‍ക്കാരുമായി ഇവര്‍ക്ക് വലിയ ബന്ധമുണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ല.

വീട് ഒഴിയുമെന്ന് അശ്വതി വീട്ടുടമയുടെ ബന്ധുവിനെ അറിയിച്ചിരുന്നു. ഇതിനായി എത്തിയ ഇദ്ദേഹം വീട് പൂട്ടിക്കിടക്കുന്നതും ഉള്ളില്‍ എസി പ്രവര്‍ത്തിക്കുന്നതും ശ്രദ്ധിച്ചു. ദുര്‍ഗന്ധം വമിച്ചതിനെ തുടര്‍ന്ന് കൗണ്‍സിലറെയും പൊലീസിനെയും വിവരമറിയിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു. ജനലിലൂടെ നോക്കിയപ്പോഴാണ് ഒരാള്‍ തൂങ്ങിനില്‍ക്കുന്നത് കണ്ടത്. തുടര്‍ന്ന് വീട് തുറന്ന് പരിശോധിച്ചപ്പോഴാണ് കൂട്ടമരണം പുറത്തറിഞ്ഞത്.

എറണാകുളം നോര്‍ത്ത് പൊലീസ് അസ്വാഭാവിക മരണത്തിന് കേസെടുത്ത് അന്വേഷണം ആരംഭിച്ചു. മൃതദേഹങ്ങള്‍ ഇന്‍ക്വസ്റ്റ് നടപടികള്‍ക്ക് ശേഷം പോസ്റ്റ്മോര്‍ട്ടത്തിനായി മെഡിക്കല്‍ കോളേജ് ആശുപത്രിയിലേക്ക് മാറ്റി.

Summary: Five members of a family from Vilappilsala, Thiruvananthapuram, were found dead in a rented house in Vaduthala. The deceased have been identified as Sreekumari (59), her daughter Aswathy S. Nair (37), and Aswathy’s children: Karnivan (14), Keerthivan (10), and Akshitha (2).

The family had moved into the house at Green Garden, Karshaka Road, Vaduthala, just two months ago. They reportedly moved to Kochi for the medical treatment of the eldest son, who had intellectual disabilities.

The incident came to light when neighbors and relatives of the house owner grew suspicious after not seeing the family for three days.

Sreekumari and Aswathy were found hanging. The bodies of the children were discovered in an unusual manner; the two younger children were dressed in new clothes and sunglasses and laid out on a bed. The eldest son was dressed in a sherwani and placed on a bedsheet spread on the floor in another room.

The police recovered a suicide note from the house. Aswathy’s husband had committed suicide eight months ago due to complications from liver disease. According to the note written by Aswathy, the constant blame and mental isolation she faced from relatives and locals following her husband’s death drove her to this extreme step. The note also stated, "Going to be with my husband."

Police noted that the family did not appear to be in financial distress, as they were living in a house with a monthly rent of ?35,000.

The Ernakulam Town North Police have registered a case and started an investigation. Preliminary findings suggest that the adults may have administered poison to the children before ending their own lives. The family had very little interaction with the neighbors.

The discovery was made when a relative of the house owner arrived at the house after Aswathy had previously informed them they would be vacating. He noticed the house was locked, the AC was running, and a foul smell was emanating from within. Upon alerting the local councillor and the police, they looked through a window and saw someone hanging. When they broke open the door, the mass tragedy was discovered.

The bodies have been shifted to the Medical College Hospital for autopsy following inquest procedures.
