തിരുവനന്തപുരം: തിരുവനന്തപുരത്തെ രാജകുടുംബത്തിന്റെ ഔദ്യോഗിക വസതിയായ കവടിയാര്‍ കൊട്ടാരത്തില്‍ നിന്നു രണ്ട് കോടി രൂപയോളം വിലമതിക്കുന്ന സ്വര്‍ണാഭരണങ്ങളും അമൂല്യ രത്‌നങ്ങളും മോഷണം പോയി. കൊട്ടാരത്തിലെ മുതിര്‍ന്ന അംഗമായ അശ്വതി തിരുനാള്‍ ഗൗരി ലക്ഷ്മി ബായിയുടെ കിടക്കറയിലെ അലമാരയില്‍ സൂക്ഷിച്ചിരുന്ന ആഭരണങ്ങളാണ് നഷ്ടപ്പെട്ടത്.

2025 ഒക്ടോബര്‍ - നവംബര്‍ മാസങ്ങള്‍ക്കിടയിലാണ് മോഷണം നടന്നതെന്ന് സംശയിക്കുന്നു. ഏകദേശം 40 പവനിലധികം വരുന്ന 12 ഇനം ആഭരണങ്ങള്‍. ഇതില്‍ പത്മനാഭസ്വാമിയുടെ ചിത്രം പതിപ്പിച്ച സ്വര്‍ണ്ണപ്പതക്കം, വജ്രം, റൂബി, പച്ചക്കല്ലുകള്‍ (എമറാള്‍ഡ്) എന്നിവ പതിപ്പിച്ച പുരാതന ആഭരണങ്ങള്‍ എന്നിവ ഉള്‍പ്പെടുന്നു.

മോഷണം നടന്ന് മാസങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് ശേഷമാണ് പോലീസില്‍ പരാതി നല്‍കിയത്. 2025 നവംബറില്‍ ബെംഗളൂരുവിലേക്ക് പോകുന്നതിന് മുന്‍പ് അലമാര പരിശോധിച്ചപ്പോഴാണ് ആഭരണങ്ങള്‍ നഷ്ടപ്പെട്ട വിവരം ആദ്യം ശ്രദ്ധയില്‍പ്പെട്ടത്. 

നഷ്ടപ്പെട്ട ആഭരണങ്ങളില്‍ പലതും പാരമ്പര്യമായി കൈമാറി വന്നതും വിദേശത്തുനിന്ന് കൊണ്ടുവന്നവയുമാണ്:

* പത്മനാഭസ്വാമി ചിത്രം ആലേഖനം ചെയ്ത സ്വര്‍ണ്ണപ്പതക്കവും നേര്‍ത്ത ചെയിനും.

* 6 പവന്‍ വരുന്ന റൂബി, ഡയമണ്ട് എന്നിവ പതിപ്പിച്ച രണ്ട് സ്വര്‍ണ്ണ വളകള്‍.

* 8 ലക്ഷം രൂപ വിലമതിക്കുന്ന പച്ചക്കല്ല് പതിച്ച നാഗപട കമ്മല്‍, മാല, പതക്കം.

* 5 പവന്‍ തൂക്കമുള്ള സ്വര്‍ണ്ണക്കുഴി മിന്നുമാല.

* ഓറഞ്ച് പവിഴവും സ്വര്‍ണ്ണ മുത്തും കോര്‍ത്ത മാല.

* പിച്ചിപ്പൂ മൊട്ട് ഡിസൈനിലുള്ള പാദസരം (3 പവന്‍).

* കറുത്ത മുത്തും സ്വര്‍ണ്ണ മുത്തും ചേര്‍ത്ത പാദസരം (2 പവന്‍).

* ഇല ഡിസൈനുള്ള രണ്ട് വലിയ വളകള്‍ (4 പവന്‍).

* ഒരു പവന്‍ വീതമുള്ള 5 കുതിരപ്പവന്‍ നാണയങ്ങള്‍.

പരാതിയുടെ അടിസ്ഥാനത്തില്‍ പേരൂര്‍ക്കട പോലീസ് കേസെടുത്ത് അന്വേഷണം ആരംഭിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. ആഭരണങ്ങള്‍ കാണാതായപ്പോള്‍ കൊട്ടാരത്തിലുള്ളവര്‍ തന്നെ ആവശ്യത്തിനായി എടുത്തതാകാം എന്ന് കരുതി ആദ്യം കുടുംബാംഗങ്ങള്‍ക്കിടയില്‍ തന്നെ ആഭ്യന്തര അന്വേഷണം നടത്തിയിരുന്നു. ആരുടെയും പക്കലില്ലെന്ന് ഉറപ്പായതോടെയാണ് മോഷണമാണെന്ന് സ്ഥിരീകരിച്ചതും പോലീസിനെ അറിയിച്ചതും.

കൊട്ടാരത്തിലെ ജീവനക്കാരുടെ മൊഴി രേഖപ്പെടുത്തുകയും സിസിടിവി ദൃശ്യങ്ങള്‍ പരിശോധിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നുണ്ട്. വിരലടയാള വിദഗ്ധരും ഫോറന്‍സിക് സംഘവും കൊട്ടാരത്തില്‍ പരിശോധന നടത്തി. നഷ്ടപ്പെട്ടവയ്ക്ക് വിപണി വിലയേക്കാള്‍ കൂടുതല്‍ പുരാവസ്തു എന്ന നിലയിലുള്ള മൂല്യമുണ്ടെന്ന് പോലീസ് റിപ്പോര്‍ട്ടില്‍ പറയുന്നു.

കൊട്ടാരത്തിലെ ജീവനക്കാരെ കേന്ദ്രീകരിച്ചും മുന്‍പ് കൊട്ടാരത്തില്‍ ജോലിക്കെത്തിയവരെ കേന്ദ്രീകരിച്ചും അന്വേഷണം ഊര്‍ജിതമാക്കിയിരിക്കുകയാണ്. നിലവില്‍, പോലീസ് അന്വേഷണം കൊട്ടാരവുമായി അടുത്ത ബന്ധമുള്ളവരിലേക്കും ജീവനക്കാരിലേക്കും ചുരുങ്ങിയിരിക്കുകയാണ്. പുറമെ നിന്നൊരാള്‍ അതിക്രമിച്ചു കയറിയതിന്റെ ലക്ഷണങ്ങള്‍ (വാതില്‍ പൊളിക്കുകയോ മതില്‍ ചാടുകയോ ചെയ്തത്) ഇല്ലാത്തതാണ് ഇതിന് കാരണം.

കൊട്ടാരത്തില്‍ സ്ഥിരമായി ജോലി ചെയ്യുന്നവര്‍, താല്‍ക്കാലിക ജീവനക്കാര്‍, ശുചീകരണ തൊഴിലാളികള്‍ എന്നിവരുടെ വിവരങ്ങള്‍ പോലീസ് ശേഖരിച്ചു. ഏകദേശം 20-ഓളം പേരെ ഇതിനോടകം ചോദ്യം ചെയ്തു.

സംശയിക്കപ്പെടുന്ന ജീവനക്കാരുടെയും ആ സമയത്ത് കൊട്ടാരത്തില്‍ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നവരുടെയും ഫോണ്‍ കോള്‍ രേഖകള്‍ സൈബര്‍ സെല്‍ പരിശോധിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. മോഷണം നടന്നുവെന്ന് കരുതപ്പെടുന്ന കാലയളവില്‍ ആഭരണ വ്യാപാരികളുമായോ മറ്റോ ആരെങ്കിലും ബന്ധപ്പെട്ടിട്ടുണ്ടോ എന്നാണ് പരിശോധിക്കുന്നത്.

തിരുവനന്തപുരത്തെ പ്രമുഖ സ്വര്‍ണ്ണക്കടകളിലും പഴയ സ്വര്‍ണ്ണം വാങ്ങുന്ന കേന്ദ്രങ്ങളിലും പോലീസ് വിവരം നല്‍കിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. പത്മനാഭസ്വാമിയുടെ ചിത്രം പതിപ്പിച്ച പതക്കം പോലെയുള്ള അമൂല്യമായ ആഭരണങ്ങള്‍ വില്‍ക്കാന്‍ എത്തിയാല്‍ ഉടന്‍ അറിയിക്കാന്‍ നിര്‍ദ്ദേശമുണ്ട്.

അലമാരയില്‍ നിന്നു ലഭിച്ച വിരലടയാളങ്ങള്‍ നിലവിലുള്ള ജീവനക്കാരുടേതുമായി ഒത്തുനോക്കി വരികയാണ്.

മോഷണം നടന്നത് ഒറ്റത്തവണയാകാന്‍ സാധ്യതയില്ല എന്നാണ് പോലീസിന്റെ പ്രാഥമിക നിഗമനം. കുറഞ്ഞ കാലയളവിനുള്ളില്‍ പലപ്പോഴായി ആഭരണങ്ങള്‍ ഓരോന്നായി മാറ്റിയതാകാം എന്ന് കരുതുന്നു. ഇത് കുടുംബാംഗങ്ങളുടെ ശ്രദ്ധയില്‍ പെടാതിരിക്കാന്‍ ബോധപൂര്‍വ്വം ചെയ്തതാണെന്ന് സംശയിക്കുന്നു.

ആഭരണങ്ങള്‍ കാണാതായ വിവരം വളരെ വൈകി റിപ്പോര്‍ട്ട് ചെയ്തത് അന്വേഷണത്തെ അല്പം പ്രയാസത്തിലാക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. എങ്കിലും ശാസ്ത്രീയമായ തെളിവുകളിലൂടെ പ്രതിയെ ഉടന്‍ പിടികൂടാന്‍ കഴിയുമെന്ന പ്രതീക്ഷയിലാണ് സിറ്റി പോലീസ്.

കഴിഞ്ഞ കുറച്ചു വര്‍ഷങ്ങളായി കൊട്ടാരത്തില്‍ ജോലി ചെയ്തിരുന്നവരും എന്നാല്‍ കഴിഞ്ഞ 6 മാസത്തിനിടെ ജോലി ഉപേക്ഷിച്ചവരുമായ നാലഞ്ചു പേരെ പോലീസ് നിരീക്ഷണത്തിലാക്കിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. ഇവരുടെ സാമ്പത്തിക ഇടപാടുകളില്‍ പെട്ടെന്നുണ്ടായ മാറ്റങ്ങള്‍ പരിശോധിച്ചു വരികയാണ്.

കൊട്ടാരത്തില്‍ അറ്റകുറ്റപ്പണികള്‍ക്കോ മറ്റ് ശുചീകരണ ജോലികള്‍ക്കോ ആയി താല്‍ക്കാലികമായി എത്തിയ തൊഴിലാളികളുടെ പട്ടികയും പോലീസ് ശേഖരിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. കൊട്ടാരത്തിന്റെ ഉള്‍ഭാഗത്തെക്കുറിച്ചും ആഭരണങ്ങള്‍ സൂക്ഷിക്കുന്ന അലമാരയെക്കുറിച്ചും വ്യക്തമായ ധാരണയുള്ള ഒരാള്‍ക്ക് മാത്രമേ ഇത്രയും കൃത്യമായി മോഷണം നടത്താന്‍ കഴിയൂ എന്ന് പോലീസ് കരുതുന്നു.

സിറ്റി പോലീസ് കമ്മിഷണറുടെ നേരിട്ടുള്ള മേല്‍നോട്ടത്തില്‍ ഒരു പ്രത്യേക സംഘത്തെ ഇതിനായി നിയോഗിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. ശാസ്ത്രീയ തെളിവുകള്‍ ശേഖരിക്കുന്നതിലാണ് ഇപ്പോള്‍ മുന്‍ഗണന.

നഷ്ടപ്പെട്ട ആഭരണങ്ങളില്‍ പലതും പുരാതനമായവയും പ്രത്യേക ഡിസൈനിലുള്ളവയുമാണ്. ഇവ സാധാരണ സ്വര്‍ണ്ണക്കടകളില്‍ വില്‍ക്കാന്‍ പ്രയാസമായതിനാല്‍, പുരാവസ്തുക്കള്‍ കൈകാര്യം ചെയ്യുന്ന ഏജന്റുകളെയോ വിദേശത്തേക്ക് കടത്താന്‍ സാധ്യതയുള്ളവരെയോ പോലീസ് നിരീക്ഷിക്കുന്നു.

കൊട്ടാരത്തിന്റെ അന്തസ്സിനെ ബാധിക്കാത്ത രീതിയില്‍ വളരെ രഹസ്യമായാണ് ചോദ്യം ചെയ്യലുകള്‍ നടക്കുന്നത്. കുടുംബാംഗങ്ങളുമായി അടുത്ത ബന്ധമുള്ള ചിലരെയും മൊഴിയെടുക്കാന്‍ വിളിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്.

നവംബര്‍ മാസത്തെ കൊട്ടാരത്തിലെയും പരിസരത്തെയും സിസിടിവി ദൃശ്യങ്ങള്‍ വീണ്ടും പരിശോധിക്കുന്നു. സംശയകരമായ രീതിയില്‍ ആരെങ്കിലും ആ സമയത്ത് അവിടെ എത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ടോ എന്നാണ് നോക്കുന്നത്.

Summary: Gold jewelry and precious gems worth approximately Rs 2 crore have been stolen from Kowdiar Palace, the official residence of the Travancore Royal Family. The ornaments were reported missing from a wardrobe in the bedroom of Aswathi Thirunal Gouri Lakshmi Bayi, a senior member of the royal family.

The theft is suspected to have occurred between October and November 2025. About 12 items of jewelry, weighing over 40 sovereigns, are missing. These include antique pieces featuring an idol of Lord Padmanabha, as well as ornaments studded with diamonds, rubies, and emeralds.

The incident was reported to the police months after it took place. The loss was first noticed in November 2025, just before a trip to Bengaluru, when the wardrobe was inspected. Many of the stolen items are heirlooms or pieces brought from abroad, including:

A gold pendant featuring Lord Padmanabha with a thin chain.

Two gold bangles (6 sovereigns) studded with rubies and diamonds.

An emerald-studded Nagapada earring, necklace, and pendant set worth ?8 lakh.

A Swarnakkuzhi Minnumala weighing 5 sovereigns.

A necklace made of orange coral and gold beads.

Anklets in a Pichippoo Mottu (jasmine bud) design (3 sovereigns).

Anklets featuring black and gold beads (2 sovereigns).

Two large leaf-design bangles (4 sovereigns).

Five Kuthirappavan coins (1 sovereign each).

Based on the complaint, the Peroorkada police have registered a case and launched an investigation. Initially, the family conducted an internal inquiry, assuming a member might have moved the jewelry for use. The police were notified only after confirming the items were not with anyone in the family.

Investigation Progress

The police are recording statements from palace staff and reviewing CCTV footage. Fingerprint experts and a forensic team have already inspected the premises. According to the police report, the stolen items hold significant antique value beyond their market price.

The investigation is currently focused on permanent and former employees, as there are no signs of forced entry, such as broken doors or scaled walls.

Suspects: Profiles of permanent staff, temporary workers, and cleaning personnel have been collected. Over 20 individuals have been questioned so far.

Cyber Cell: Call records of employees and those present at the palace during the suspected timeframe are being analyzed to check for contacts with jewelry dealers.

Alerts: Major jewelry shops and old-gold purchase centers in Thiruvananthapuram have been alerted to report any attempts to sell unique items like the Padmanabha pendant.

Forensics: Fingerprints recovered from the wardrobe are being cross-checked with those of the current staff.

Police Strategy

The preliminary conclusion is that the theft likely happened in stages rather than all at once. It is suspected that the items were removed one by one over a short period to avoid immediate detection.

While the delay in reporting has complicated the investigation, the City Police remain optimistic about catching the culprit through scientific evidence. Four or five individuals who left their jobs at the palace in the last six months are under surveillance, and their recent financial transactions are being scrutinized.

The police believe the crime was committed by someone with intimate knowledge of the palace interior and the specific wardrobe where the jewelry was kept. A special team under the direct supervision of the City Police Commissioner has been formed. Given the unique antique designs, authorities are also monitoring antique dealers and potential smuggling routes to prevent the items from being taken abroad.
