The government added that the decision was made to protect the spirit of cricket and ensure the sustainability of the sport.
Intervention by Bangladesh
Pakistan's withdrawal from the boycott was solidified after Bangladesh Cricket Board chief Aminul Islam requested them to participate. Aminul Islam's letter, urging Pakistan to play for the "good of cricket," is being viewed as a face-saving tactic for Pakistan to avoid domestic criticism for changing its stance.
Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake also called Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, requesting a friendly resolution to the issue.
The ICC's Stance
Following the boycott drama, the ICC made several key decisions:
No Penalty for Bangladesh: No financial or sporting penalties will be imposed on the Bangladesh Cricket Board for refusing to play in India. Currently, Scotland has replaced Bangladesh in the tournament.
Future Promises: The ICC has agreed to grant Bangladesh the hosting rights for a global tournament between 2028 and 2031.
PCB's Demands: The ICC rejected Pakistan's demand to resume bilateral series with India. It is noteworthy that India has not played tri-series tournaments for over a decade.
Background
The dispute began when the BCCI suggested removing Kolkata Knight Riders pacer Mustafizur Rahman from the team, citing concerns over violence against minorities in Bangladesh. In protest, Bangladesh demanded that their matches be held outside India, which the ICC refused. Following this, Pakistan threatened to boycott the match against India in solidarity with Bangladesh.
