ശബരിമലയുടെ ചരിത്രത്തില് തന്നെ ആദ്യമായാണ് തന്ത്രി അഴിമതിക്കേസില് അറസ്റ്റിലാകുന്നത് എന്നത് വലിയ വിവാദങ്ങള്ക്ക് വഴിതെളിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. കേസില് എന്ഫോഴ്സ്മെന്റ് ഡയറക്ടറേറ്റും അന്വേഷണം വ്യാപിപ്പിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്.

പോറ്റിയുമായി 20 വര്ഷം നീണ്ട അടുപ്പം
കേസിലെ പ്രധാന പ്രതിയായ ഉണ്ണിക്കൃഷ്ണന് പോറ്റിയുമായി തന്ത്രിക്കുള്ള 20 വര്ഷത്തെ അടുത്ത ബന്ധം ഈ അഴിമതിക്കായി ദുരുപയോഗം ചെയ്യപ്പെട്ടുവെന്ന് അന്വേഷണ സംഘം കണ്ടെത്തി. പോറ്റിയെ സന്നിധാനത്തേക്ക് കൊണ്ടുവരുന്നതിനും സ്പോണ്സറെ കണ്ടെത്താന് സഹായിച്ചതും തന്ത്രിയാണെന്ന് റിപ്പോര്ട്ട് പറയുന്നു.

സ്വര്ണ്ണപ്പാളികള് സന്നിധാനത്തിന് പുറത്തേക്ക് കൊണ്ടുപോകുന്നതിനായി തന്ത്രി നല്കിയ മൂന്ന് അനുമതി പത്രങ്ങള് വ്യാജമോ നിയമവിരുദ്ധമോ ആണെന്നു പോലീസ് കരുതുന്നു. തന്ത്രിയുടെ അനുമതിയോടെയാണ് സ്വര്ണ്ണം കടത്തിയതെന്ന പോറ്റിയുടെ മൊഴി തന്ത്രിക്കു തിരിച്ചടിയായി.
സ്വര്ണ്ണപ്പാളികള് നവീകരിക്കാന് നല്കിയതില് 4.5 കിലോയോളം സ്വര്ണ്ണം കുറവുണ്ടായെന്നും, ഇതിന് പിന്നില് ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥരും തന്ത്രി ഉള്പ്പെടെയുള്ളവരും ചേര്ന്ന് നടത്തിയ വലിയ അഴിമതിയാണെന്നുമാണ് അന്വേഷണ സംഘത്തിന്റെ കണ്ടെത്തല്.
സന്നിധാനത്തെ ജീവനക്കാരുടെ മൊഴികളും തന്ത്രിക്കെതിരായി
തന്ത്രിക്കെതിരെ സന്നിധാനത്തെ ചില ജീവനക്കാരും ദേവസ്വം ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥരും നല്കിയ മൊഴികളും ഫോണ് രേഖകളുമാണ് അറസ്റ്റിലേക്ക് നയിച്ച പ്രധാന തെളിവുകള്. ഈ കേസില് നേരത്തെ മുന് ദേവസ്വം ബോര്ഡ് പ്രസിഡന്റുമാരായ എ. പത്മകുമാര്, എന്. വാസു, ഒന്നാം പ്രതി ഉണ്ണിക്കൃഷ്ണന് പോറ്റി എന്നിവരും അറസ്റ്റിലായിരുന്നു.
ശബരിമലയിലെ സ്വര്ണ്ണപ്പാളികള് നവീകരിച്ചതില് നടന്ന കോടിക്കണക്കിന് രൂപയുടെ തട്ടിപ്പുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട് പ്രത്യേക അന്വേഷണ സംഘം നിര്ണ്ണായകമായ മറ്റൊരു അറസ്റ്റ് കൂടി രേഖപ്പെടുത്തി. മുന് അഡ്മിനിസ്ട്രേറ്റീവ് ഓഫീസറായിരുന്ന ശ്രീകുമാര് ആണ് പിടിയിലായത്.
2019-ല് ശബരിമലയിലെ ദ്വാരപാലക ശില്പങ്ങളുടെ സ്വര്ണ്ണപ്പാളികള് അറ്റകുറ്റപ്പണിക്കായി പുറത്തേക്ക് കൊണ്ടുപോകുന്ന സമയത്ത് അഡ്മിനിസ്ട്രേറ്റീവ് ഓഫീസറായിരുന്നു ശ്രീകുമാര്. സ്വര്ണ്ണപ്പാളികള് ഉണ്ണിക്കൃഷ്ണന് പോറ്റിക്ക് കൈമാറുന്ന നടപടികളില് ഇദ്ദേഹം പ്രധാന പങ്കുവഹിച്ചുവെന്ന് അന്വേഷണ സംഘം കണ്ടെത്തി.
സ്വര്ണ്ണത്തെ വെറും ചെമ്പ് പാളികളായി രേഖകളില് രേഖപ്പെടുത്തിയതും, തട്ടിപ്പിന് കളമൊരുക്കാന് ഗൂഢാലോചന നടത്തിയതും ഉള്പ്പെടെയുള്ള കുറ്റങ്ങളാണ് ഇദ്ദേഹത്തിനെതിരെ ചുമത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നത്. മറ്റ് ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥര്ക്കെതിരെയുള്ള സമാനമായ ആരോപണങ്ങള് തന്നെയാണ് ശ്രീകുമാറിനെതിരെയും ഉള്ളത്.
ഈ സ്വര്ണ്ണക്കൊള്ളയ്ക്ക് പിന്നില് അന്താരാഷ്ട്ര തലത്തിലുള്ള വലിയൊരു പുരാവസ്തു കടത്ത് മാഫിയയുണ്ടെന്ന ആരോപണം ശക്തമാവുകയാണ്. ഇതുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട് ഒരു വിദേശ വ്യവസായി അന്വേഷണ സംഘത്തിന് നിര്ണ്ണായക മൊഴി നല്കിയതായും റിപ്പോര്ട്ടില് പറയുന്നു.
കേസിനെ ചൊല്ലി കേരള രാഷ്ട്രീയത്തിലും വലിയ വാക്പോര് നടക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. മുന് ദേവസ്വം മന്ത്രി കടകംപള്ളി സുരേന്ദ്രനും പ്രതിപക്ഷ നേതാവ് വി.ഡി. സതീശനും തമ്മില് ഈ വിഷയത്തില് പരസ്യമായ വെല്ലുവിളികള് നടത്തിയിരുന്നു. കടകംപള്ളി നല്കിയ മാനനഷ്ടക്കേസ് കോടതി പരിഗണിക്കാനിരിക്കെയാണ് ഈ അറസ്റ്റ് നടന്നത്.
നിരപരാധി, കുടുക്കിയതെന്നു തന്ത്രി
സ്വര്ണ്ണക്കൊള്ള കേസില് പ്രത്യേക അന്വേഷണ സംഘം (ടകഠ) തന്ത്രി കണ്ഠരര് രാജീവരില് നിന്ന് നേരത്തെ മൊഴിയെടുത്തപ്പോള്, കേസിലെ ഒന്നാം പ്രതിയായ ഉണ്ണിക്കൃഷ്ണന് പോറ്റിയെ തനിക്ക് പരിചയമുണ്ടെന്ന് അദ്ദേഹം സമ്മതിച്ചിരുന്നു. ശബരിമലയിലെ വഴിപാടുകാരന് എന്ന നിലയിലും പൂജാരിയുടെ സഹായി എന്ന നിലയിലുമാണ് പോറ്റിയെ അറിയുന്നതെന്നായിരുന്നു അന്നത്തെ മൊഴി. സ്വര്ണ്ണപ്പാളികള് പുതുക്കാന് ദേവഹിതം നോക്കി അനുമതി നല്കുക മാത്രമാണ് ചെയ്തതെന്നും അദ്ദേഹം പറഞ്ഞിരുന്നു.
ദേവസ്വം ബോര്ഡ് മുന് പ്രസിഡന്റ് എ. പത്മകുമാര് മാസങ്ങള്ക്ക് മുമ്പ് നടത്തിയ ഒരു പരാമര്ശം വലിയ വിവാദമായിരുന്നു. 'ദൈവതുല്യരായി കാണുന്ന പലരും ഇതിനകത്ത് (സ്വര്ണ്ണക്കൊള്ളയില്) ഉണ്ടെങ്കില് എന്തുചെയ്യാന് പറ്റും' എന്നായിരുന്നു അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ വാക്കുകള്. ഇത് തന്ത്രിയെ ഉദ്ദേശിച്ചാണോ എന്ന് അന്ന് ചോദ്യങ്ങള് ഉയര്ന്നിരുന്നു. ഇതിനോട് പ്രതികരിക്കവെ, 'ദൈവതുല്യരായ എത്രയോ പേരുണ്ട്, പത്മകുമാര് ഉദ്ദേശിച്ചവര് ആരാണെന്ന് തനിക്കറിയില്ല' എന്നായിരുന്നു കണ്ഠരര് രാജീവരുടെ മറുപടി. പിന്നീട് പത്മകുമാര് തന്നെ ഇതിന് വിശദീകരണം നല്കുകയും 'ദൈവതുല്യന് ശവംതീനിയല്ല' എന്ന് പറയുകയും ചെയ്തിരുന്നു.
സന്നിധാനത്തിന് പുറത്തേക്ക് സ്വര്ണ്ണപ്പാളികള് കൊണ്ടുപോകാന് തന്ത്രി അനുമതി നല്കിയോ എന്ന കാര്യത്തിലാണ് അന്വേഷണ സംഘം പ്രധാനമായും വ്യക്തത തേടുന്നത്. ദേവസ്വം ബോര്ഡിന്റെ തീരുമാനപ്രകാരമാണ് സ്വര്ണ്ണപ്പാളികള് പുറത്തേക്ക് കൊണ്ടുപോയതെന്ന നിലപാടാണ് തന്ത്രി സ്വീകരിച്ചത്. എന്നാല് പോറ്റിയെ സ്വര്ണ്ണപ്പണികള്ക്കായി എത്തിച്ചതില് തന്ത്രിക്ക് പങ്കുണ്ടെന്ന മൊഴികള് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് തിരിച്ചടിയായിട്ടുണ്ട്.
മുന് ദേവസ്വം വകുപ്പ് മന്ത്രി കടകംപള്ളി സുരേന്ദ്രന്, മുന് ദേവസ്വം ബോര്ഡ് പ്രസിഡന്റ് പി.എസ്. പ്രശാന്ത് എന്നിവരെയും ഇതിനോടകം എസ്.ഐ.ടി ചോദ്യം ചെയ്തതായി റിപ്പോര്ട്ടില് പറയുന്നു.

Furthermore, the Tantri allegedly bypassed Devaswom regulations to grant unauthorized permission to move gold plates out of the temple. The police acted with extreme secrecy to ensure Kandararu Rajeevaru could not move for anticipatory bail.
A 20-Year Bond with Potti
The investigation team discovered that the Tantri’s 20-year-long close relationship with the prime accused, Unnikrishnan Potti, was exploited for this corruption. The report states that the Tantri helped bring Potti to the Sannidhanam and assisted in finding a sponsor.
The Tantri had granted permission to renovate the gold plates three separate times. The SIT concluded that this was not merely a spiritual blessing but a calculated move to facilitate corruption. Allowing the gold plates to be taken outside the Sannidhanam directly aided the theft.
The probe team also unearthed long-standing financial transactions between the Tantri and Potti. There are allegations that the Tantri received a share of the proceeds from the sale of the gold plates. The report claims the Tantri used his spiritual authority as a cover to take gold offered by devotees outside under the guise of renovation, replacing it with low-quality base metals.
Tantri Defined as a 'Public Servant'
The SIT informed the court that since the Tantri receives a salary from the Devaswom Board, he is considered a 'public servant' under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Consequently, he has been charged with serious sections of the Act for abusing his official position.
The arrest was recorded after several hours of interrogation at the Crime Branch headquarters. There are indications that the involvement of more high-ranking individuals may soon come to light. Kandararu Rajeevaru has been named the 11th accused in the case, facing charges of conspiracy and various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
Police suspect that the three letters of permission granted by the Tantri to move the gold plates were either forged or illegal. Potti’s statement, claiming the gold was smuggled with the Tantri’s consent, has become a major setback for the priest. The investigation found a shortage of approximately 4.5 kg of gold in the renovation process, pointing toward a massive scam involving officials and the Tantri.
Statements from Sannidhanam Employees
Key evidence leading to the arrest includes phone records and statements from certain Sannidhanam employees and Devaswom officials. Previously, former Devaswom Board Presidents A. Padmakumar and N. Vasu, along with prime accused Unnikrishnan Potti, were arrested in connection with this case.
In another significant development, the SIT arrested Sreekumar, a former Administrative Officer. Sreekumar held the post in 2019 when the gold plates of the Dwarapalaka (guardian) idols were taken out for repair. The investigation found he played a major role in handing over the plates to Unnikrishnan Potti. He is accused of conspiracy and recording the gold as mere copper plates in official documents.
The investigation is also looking into allegations that a large-scale international antique smuggling mafia is behind the heist. A foreign businessman has reportedly given a crucial statement to the SIT.
The case has also triggered a political war of words in Kerala. Former Devaswom Minister Kadakampally Surendran and Opposition Leader V.D. Satheesan have engaged in public challenges over the issue. This arrest comes while a defamation case filed by Kadakampally is pending in court.
"I am Innocent," Says Tantri
In his statement, the Tantri maintained that he never gave permission to take the gold plates outside Sabarimala and had only authorized repairs within the Sannidhanam. However, the SIT has not fully accepted this claim. The Tantri alleges he is innocent and has been framed.
In earlier questioning, the Tantri admitted to knowing Unnikrishnan Potti as a devotee and a priest's assistant. He claimed he only granted permission for the work based on "divine will" (Devahitham).
A past comment by former Devaswom Board President A. Padmakumar has also resurfaced. He had remarked, "What can be done if those seen as God-like are involved (in the heist)?" When asked then if this referred to him, Kandararu Rajeevaru replied that he didn't know who Padmakumar meant. Padmakumar later clarified his stance by stating, "A God-like person is not a scavenger of the dead."
The SIT is currently focusing on whether the Tantri specifically authorized the removal of gold plates from the Sannidhanam. While the Tantri claims it was a Devaswom Board decision, statements regarding his role in bringing Potti to the temple have weakened his defense. The SIT has also reportedly questioned former Devaswom Minister Kadakampally Surendran and former Board President P.S. Prasanth.
