ബംഗളൂരൂ: തുടര്‍ച്ചയായ റെയ്ഡുകളും സാമ്പത്തിക ആരോപണങ്ങളും നല്കിയ മാനസിക സമ്മര്‍ദ്ദമാണ്  കോണ്‍ഫിഡന്റ് ഗ്രൂപ്പിന്റെ സ്ഥാപകനും ചെയര്‍മാനുമായ ഡോ. സി. ജെ. റോയി (57) സ്വയം വെടിവച്ചു മരിക്കാന്‍ കാരണമെന്ന് കുടുംബ വൃത്തങ്ങള്‍ പറയുന്നു.

ബംഗളൂരുവിലെ ലാംഗ്‌ഫോര്‍ഡ് ടൗണിലുള്ള ഓഫീസിലാണ് വെടിയേറ്റ നിലയില്‍ അദ്ദേഹത്തെ കണ്ടെത്തിയത്. അദ്ദേഹം ആത്മഹത്യ ചെയ്ത സമയത്ത് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ വീടുകളിലും ഓഫീസുകളിലും ആദായനികുതി വകുപ്പിന്റെ റെയ്ഡ് നടക്കുകയായിരുന്നു. റെയ്ഡിനിടെ ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥര്‍ അദ്ദേഹത്തെ ചോദ്യം ചെയ്തിരുന്നു.

ആദായനികുതി വെട്ടിപ്പുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ടുള്ള ആരോപണങ്ങളില്‍ ദീര്‍ഘകാലമായി അദ്ദേഹം നിയമപോരാട്ടത്തിലായിരുന്നു. റെയ്ഡിനെതിരെ അദ്ദേഹം നേരത്തെ കോടതിയില്‍ നിന്ന് സ്റ്റേ വാങ്ങിയിരുന്നുവെങ്കിലും, അടുത്തിടെ കോടതി ഇത് നീക്കിയതിനെ തുടര്‍ന്നാണ് വീണ്ടും പരിശോധനകള്‍ ശക്തമായത്.

ബംഗളൂരു റിച്ച്മണ്ട് സര്‍ക്കിളിന് സമീപമുള്ള കോണ്‍ഫിഡന്റ് പെന്റഗണ്‍ ബില്‍ഡിംഗിലെ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ഓഫീസ്. പരിശോധനയ്ക്കിടയില്‍ ചില രേഖകള്‍ എടുക്കാനെന്ന വ്യാജേന മറ്റൊരു മുറിയിലേക്ക് പോയ അദ്ദേഹം തന്റെ ലൈസന്‍സുള്ള തോക്ക് ഉപയോഗിച്ച് നെഞ്ചിലേക്ക് വെടിയുതിര്‍ക്കുകയായിരുന്നു. ഉടന്‍ തന്നെ അദ്ദേഹത്തെ അടുത്തുള്ള നാരായണ ആശുപത്രിയില്‍ എത്തിച്ചെങ്കിലും ജീവന്‍ രക്ഷിക്കാനായില്ല.

ബംഗളൂരു പോലീസ് തോക്ക് കസ്റ്റഡിയിലെടുക്കുകയും സംഭവത്തില്‍ വിശദമായ അന്വേഷണം ആരംഭിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തിട്ടുണ്ട്.

2005-ല്‍ സ്ഥാപിതമായ കോണ്‍ഫിഡന്റ് ഗ്രൂപ്പ് ദക്ഷിണേന്ത്യയിലെയും ദുബായിലെയും പ്രമുഖ റിയല്‍ എസ്റ്റേറ്റ് കമ്പനികളിലൊന്നാണ്. റിയല്‍ എസ്റ്റേറ്റ് മേഖലയ്ക്ക് പുറമെ സിനിമ, വിദ്യാഭ്യാസം, വിനോദം തുടങ്ങിയ മേഖലകളിലും അദ്ദേഹം സജീവമായിരുന്നു. സാധാരണ കുടുംബത്തില്‍ നിന്ന് വളര്‍ന്ന് വലിയൊരു ബിസിനസ് സാമ്രാജ്യം കെട്ടിപ്പടുത്ത അദ്ദേഹം, ബിസിനസ് ലോകത്ത് വലിയ സ്വാധീനമുള്ള വ്യക്തിയായിരുന്നു.

രാഷ്ട്രീയക്കാരുടെ കള്ളപ്പണം റിയല്‍ എസ്റ്റേറ്റ് മേഖല വഴി വെളുപ്പിക്കുന്നു എന്ന ആരോപവിവരത്തെ തുടര്‍ന്ന് ഒന്നരമാസം മുന്‍പാണ് ആദായനികുതി വകുപ്പ് അന്വേഷണം തുടങ്ങിയത്. കഴിഞ്ഞ ഡിസംബറില്‍ നടന്ന റെയ്ഡില്‍ ചില സുപ്രധാന രേഖകള്‍ കണ്ടെത്തി ഒരു മുറി സീല്‍ ചെയ്തിരുന്നു.

കേരളത്തില്‍ നിന്നുള്ള ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥര്‍ ബംഗളൂരുവില്‍ വന്ന് പരിശോധന നടത്തുന്നത് ചോദ്യം ചെയ്ത് സി.ജെ. റോയ് കര്‍ണാടക ഹൈക്കോടതിയില്‍ നിന്ന് സ്റ്റേ വാങ്ങിയിരുന്നു. കഴിഞ്ഞ ദിവസം കോടതി ഈ സ്റ്റേ നീക്കിയതോടെയാണ് ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥര്‍ വീണ്ടും തിടുക്കപ്പെട്ട് പരിശോധനയ്ക്കായി എത്തിയത്.

അറസ്റ്റ് ഉണ്ടാകുമെന്ന് അദ്ദേഹം ഭയപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നതായി ജീവനക്കാര്‍ പോലീസിന് മൊഴി നല്‍കി. എന്നാല്‍ തങ്ങള്‍ സമ്മര്‍ദ്ദമൊന്നും ചെലുത്തിയിട്ടില്ലെന്നും പരിശോധന സൗഹാര്‍ദ്ദപരമായാണ് നടന്നതെന്നുമാണ് ആദായനികുതി വകുപ്പിന്റെ വിശദീകരണം.

തൃശ്ശൂര്‍ സ്വദേശിയായ റോയ് ഐ.ടി കമ്പനിയായ എച്ച്.പിയിലെ ജോലി രാജവെച്ചാണ് ബിസിനസ് രംഗത്തേക്ക് എത്തിയത്. ബംഗളൂരുവില്‍ മാത്രം 160 പ്രോജക്റ്റുകള്‍ കോണ്‍ഫിഡന്റ് ഗ്രൂപ്പിനുണ്ട്. ദുബായ് ഉള്‍പ്പെടെയുള്ള വിദേശ രാജ്യങ്ങളിലും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് വലിയ നിക്ഷേപങ്ങളുണ്ട്. ഹോസ്പിറ്റാലിറ്റി, ഏവിയേഷന്‍, വിദ്യാഭ്യാസം തുടങ്ങിയ മേഖലകളിലും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് വന്‍ നിക്ഷേപങ്ങളുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. ഫോബ്‌സ് പട്ടികയില്‍ അറബ് ലോകത്തെ ഏറ്റവും മികച്ച ഇന്ത്യന്‍ ബിസിനസുകാരില്‍ 14-ാം സ്ഥാനത്ത് അദ്ദേഹം എത്തിയിരുന്നു.

സിനിമാ നിര്‍മ്മാണ രംഗത്തും അദ്ദേഹം സജീവമായിരുന്നു. മോഹന്‍ലാല്‍ ചിത്രം 'കാസനോവ', 'മരയ്ക്കാര്‍: അറബിക്കടലിന്റെ സിംഹം', 'ഐഡന്റിറ്റി' തുടങ്ങിയ സിനിമകളുടെ സഹനിര്‍മ്മാതാവാണ് അദ്ദേഹം.

സംഭവത്തെക്കുറിച്ച് പോലീസ് അന്വേഷണം നടത്തിവരികയാണ്. ഓഫീസിലെ സിസിടിവി ദൃശ്യങ്ങള്‍ ഉള്‍പ്പെടെയുള്ളവ പോലീസ് പരിശോധിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്.

സിനിമാ നിര്‍മ്മാണ രംഗത്തും ജീവകാരുണ്യ പ്രവര്‍ത്തനങ്ങളിലും അദ്ദേഹം സജീവമായിരുന്നു. സ്വിറ്റ്‌സര്‍ലന്‍ഡിലെ എസ്.ബി.എസ് ബിസിനസ് സ്‌കൂളില്‍ നിന്ന് ബിസിനസ് അഡ്മിനിസ്‌ട്രേഷനില്‍ ഡോക്ടറേറ്റ് നേടിയിയിരുന്നു.

മൃതദേഹം നിലവില്‍ നാരായണ ആശുപത്രിയില്‍ സൂക്ഷിച്ചിരിക്കുകയാണ്. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ മരണത്തില്‍ എന്തെങ്കിലും ദുരൂഹതയുണ്ടോ എന്ന് പോലീസ് പരിശോധിച്ചു വരികയാണ്. ഓഫീസിലെ സിസിടിവി ദൃശ്യങ്ങള്‍ പോലീസ് വിശദമായി പരിശോധിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്.

He was found with a gunshot wound at his office in Langford Town, Bengaluru. At the time of the incident, Income Tax department raids were ongoing at his residences and offices. Officials had reportedly questioned him during the raid.

Dr. Roy had been in a long-standing legal battle regarding allegations of income tax evasion. Although he had previously obtained a stay from the court against the raids, the inspections intensified recently after the court vacated the stay.

The incident occurred at his office in the Confident Pentagon Building near Richmond Circle, Bengaluru. While the inspection was in progress, he went to another room under the pretext of retrieving some documents and used his licensed pistol to shoot himself in the chest. Although he was immediately rushed to the nearby Narayana Hospital, his life could not be saved.

The Bengaluru Police have seized the firearm and initiated a detailed investigation into the incident. Established in 2005, the Confident Group is one of the leading real estate companies in South India and Dubai.

Beyond real estate, Dr. Roy was active in sectors such as cinema, education, and entertainment. Rising from an ordinary family to build a massive business empire, he was a highly influential figure in the business world.

The Income Tax Department's investigation began a month and a half ago following allegations that political black money was being laundered through the real estate sector. During a raid last December, officials found crucial documents and sealed a room.

Dr. Roy had obtained a stay from the Karnataka High Court, questioning the authority of officials from Kerala to conduct inspections in Bengaluru. The officials arrived for a hurried inspection immediately after the court vacated the stay.

Employees testified to the police that Dr. Roy feared an imminent arrest. However, the Income Tax Department explained that they did not exert any pressure and that the inspection was conducted in a friendly manner.

A native of Thrissur, Roy entered the business field after resigning from his job at the IT firm HP (Hewlett-Packard). The Confident Group has over 160 projects in Bengaluru alone. He held massive investments in foreign countries, including Dubai, and in sectors like hospitality, aviation, and education. He was ranked 14th in the Forbes list of top Indian business leaders in the Arab world.

He was also a prominent figure in film production, serving as a co-producer for movies like the Mohanlal starrer Casanova, Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham, and Identity.

The police investigation is ongoing, and authorities are examining CCTV footage from the office. In addition to film production, he was highly active in philanthropic activities. He held a Doctorate in Business Administration from the SBS Business School in Switzerland.

The body is currently kept at Narayana Hospital. The police are investigating if there is any mystery surrounding the death and are thoroughly reviewing the office's CCTV footage.
