Train journeys are set to become more expensive from December 26 as Indian Railways has decided to increase passenger fares
ന്യൂഡല്ഹി: യാത്രാ നിരക്കുകള് വര്ധിപ്പിക്കാന് ഇന്ത്യന് റെയില്വേ തീരുമാനിച്ചതോടെ ഡിസംബര് 26 മുതല് ട്രെയിന് യാത്രകള്ക്ക് ചിലവേറും. സബര്ബന് ട്രെയിന് യാത്രകളുടെ നിരക്കില് മാറ്റമില്ലെങ്കിലും ദീര്ഘദൂര യാത്രകള്ക്ക് ഇനി കൂടുതല് തുക നല്കേണ്ടി വരും.
പുതിയ നിരക്കുകള് ഇങ്ങനെ:
ജനറല് ക്ലാസ്: 215 കിലോമീറ്റര് വരെയുള്ള യാത്രകള്ക്ക് നിരക്ക് വര്ധനയില്ല. എന്നാല് 215 കിലോമീറ്ററിന് മുകളിലുള്ള ദൂരത്തിന് കിലോമീറ്ററിന് 1 പൈസ വീതം വര്ധിക്കും.
നോണ്-എസി കോച്ചുകള് (മെയില്/എക്സ്പ്രസ്): കിലോമീറ്ററിന് 2 പൈസ വര്ധിക്കും.
എസി കോച്ചുകള്: എല്ലാ എസി ക്ലാസുകളിലും കിലോമീറ്ററിന് 2 പൈസ വീതമാണ് വര്ധന.
ഉദാഹരണത്തിന്, പുതിയ നിരക്ക് പ്രാബല്യത്തില് വരുന്നതോടെ നോണ്-എസി കോച്ചുകളിലെ 500 കിലോമീറ്റര് യാത്രയ്ക്ക് 10 രൂപ അധികം നല്കേണ്ടി വരും.
കഴിഞ്ഞ പതിറ്റാണ്ടിനിടെ റെയില്വേ ശൃംഖലയും പ്രവര്ത്തനങ്ങളും വിപുലീകരിച്ചതായും ജീവനക്കാരുടെ എണ്ണം വര്ധിപ്പിച്ചതായും റെയില്വേ അറിയിച്ചു. ഈ നിരക്ക് വര്ധനയിലൂടെ റെയില്വേയ്ക്ക് പ്രതിവര്ഷം 600 കോടി രൂപയുടെ അധിക വരുമാനം ലഭിക്കുമെന്നാണ് പ്രതീക്ഷിക്കുന്നത്.
റെയില്വേയുടെ പ്രവര്ത്തന ചെലവുകളെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള കണക്കുകള്:
ജീവനക്കാരുടെ ചെലവ്: 1,15,000 കോടി രൂപ.
പെന്ഷന് ചെലവ്: 60,000 കോടി രൂപ.
ആകെ പ്രവര്ത്തന ചെലവ് (202425 സാമ്പത്തിക വര്ഷം): 2,63,000 കോടി രൂപ.
വര്ധിച്ചുവരുന്ന ഈ ചെലവുകള് കണ്ടെത്താനായി ചരക്ക് നീക്കം വര്ധിപ്പിക്കുന്നതിലും യാത്രാ നിരക്ക് വര്ധിപ്പിക്കുന്നതിലുമാണ് റെയില്വേ ശ്രദ്ധ കേന്ദ്രീകരിക്കുന്നത്.
മുന്പത്തെ വര്ധനകള്
ഈ വര്ഷം ജൂലായിലും റെയില്വേ നിരക്ക് വര്ധിപ്പിച്ചിരുന്നു. അന്ന് നോണ്-എസി മെയില്/എക്സ്പ്രസ് ട്രെയിനുകള്ക്ക് കിലോമീറ്ററിന് 1 പൈസയും എസി ക്ലാസുകള്ക്ക് 2 പൈസയുമാണ് വര്ധിപ്പിച്ചത്. അതിനു മുന്പ് 2020 ജനുവരി 1-നായിരുന്നു വലിയ രീതിയിലുള്ള ഒരു നിരക്ക് വര്ധന ഉണ്ടായത്.

Reasons for the Hike
The Railways stated that it has significantly expanded its network and operations over the past decade and has increased its workforce. This fare hike is expected to generate an additional annual revenue of Rs 600 crore for the Railways.
Operational Cost Estimates for Railways:
Manpower Cost: Rs 1,15,000 crore.
Pension Cost: Rs 60,000 crore.
Total Operational Cost (FY 2024-25): Rs 2,63,000 crore.
To meet these rising expenses, the Railways is focusing on enhancing freight (cargo) loading and increasing passenger fares.
Previous Hikes
Railways had previously hiked fares in July this year. At that time, fares for non-AC Mail/Express trains were increased by 1 paisa per km, and AC classes by 2 paise per km. Before that, a major fare revision took place on January 1, 2020.
