തിരുവനന്തപുരം: തൃശൂര്‍ കോര്‍പ്പറേഷനില്‍ ജനം നല്ലൊരു ജയം കൈയില്‍ വച്ചുകൊടുത്തിട്ടും തമ്മിലടിച്ചും കുതികാല്‍ വെട്ടിയും കോണ്‍ഗ്രസ് പാരമ്പര്യം തുടരുമ്പോള്‍ ഇടതു പക്ഷത്തിന് കിട്ടുന്നത് വലിയൊരു ആയുധം. തൃശ്ശൂര്‍ ഡി.സി.സി പ്രസിഡന്റ് ജോസഫ് ടാജറ്റിനെതിരെ ഉയര്‍ന്ന കോഴ ആരോപണമാണ് കോണ്‍ഗ്രസിന് ഓര്‍ക്കാപ്പുറത്ത് വലിയൊരു അപമാനവും പാരയുമായിരിക്കുന്നത്.

മേയര്‍ സ്ഥാനത്തിനായി ഡി.സി.സി പ്രസിഡന്റ് പണം ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ടെന്ന ആരോപണത്തില്‍ ജോസഫ് ടാജറ്റിനെതിരെ വിജിലന്‍സില്‍ പരാതി ലഭിച്ചു. ആലപ്പുഴ സ്വദേശിയായ കെ.കെ. വിമലാണ് അന്വേഷണം ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ട് വിജിലന്‍സിനും മുഖ്യമന്ത്രിക്കും പരാതി നല്‍കിയത്. ഇതു ഫലത്തില്‍ ശബരിമല സ്വര്‍ണം കൊള്ളയുടെ പേരില്‍ മാനംകെട്ടു നില്‍ക്കുന്ന സര്‍ക്കാരിനും ഇടതു പക്ഷത്തിനും നല്ലൊരു ആയുധമായി മാറാന്‍ പോവുകയാണ്.

തൃശ്ശൂര്‍ കോര്‍പ്പറേഷനിലെ കോണ്‍ഗ്രസ് കൗണ്‍സിലറായ ലാലി ജെയിംസാണ് പരസ്യമായ കോഴ ആരോപണം ഉന്നയിച്ചത്. മേയര്‍ സ്ഥാനത്തേക്ക് പരിഗണിക്കപ്പെടാന്‍ ജോസഫ് ടാജറ്റ് പണം ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ടെന്നും, പണം ഇല്ലാത്തതിനാലാണ് തന്നെ ഒഴിവാക്കിയതെന്നും അവര്‍ ആരോപിച്ചു. ഈ ആരോപണം അന്വേഷിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് സര്‍ക്കാരിന് കോണ്‍ഗ്രസ് പാര്‍ട്ടിയെ തുറന്നുകാട്ടാന്‍ കഴിയും. കോര്‍പ്പറേഷനും പഞ്ചായത്തും പോലും ഭരിക്കാന്‍ കഴിയാത്തവര്‍ എങ്ങനെ സംസ്ഥാനം ഭരിക്കുമെന്ന ചോദ്യം സ്വാഭാവികമായി ഉയരും.

നിലവില്‍ മേയറായി നിശ്ചയിക്കപ്പെട്ട നിജി ജസ്റ്റിന്‍ പണം നല്‍കിയാണ് ആ സ്ഥാനം നേടിയതെന്നും, നിജിയും ഭര്‍ത്താവും എ.ഐ.സി.സി നേതാക്കളെ പെട്ടിയുമായാണ് കണ്ടതെന്നും ലാലി ജെയിംസ് ആരോപിച്ചിരുന്നു. ഇതോടെ നേതൃത്വം മൊത്തം സംശയ നിഴലിലായിരിക്കുകയാണ്.

പാര്‍ലമെന്ററി പാര്‍ട്ടിയുടെ തീരുമാനപ്രകാരമാണ് ഡോ. നിജി ജസ്റ്റിനെ മേയറാക്കിയതെന്നും കോഴ ആരോപണങ്ങള്‍ അടിസ്ഥാനരഹിതമാണെന്നും ജോസഫ് ടാജറ്റ് പ്രതികരിച്ചു. ലാലി ജെയിംസ് നാല് തവണ മത്സരിച്ചപ്പോള്‍ ആര്‍ക്കാണ് 'പെട്ടി' നല്‍കിയതെന്നും അദ്ദേഹം പരിഹാസരൂപേണ ചോദിച്ചിരുന്നു.

താന്‍ 27 വര്‍ഷമായി രാഷ്ട്രീയത്തിലുള്ള വ്യക്തിയാണെന്നും വിവാദങ്ങളില്‍ തളരില്ലെന്നും മേയര്‍ നിജി ജസ്റ്റിന്‍ വ്യക്തമാക്കി. ആരോപണങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് മറുപടി നല്‍കേണ്ടത് പാര്‍ട്ടിയാണെന്നും അവര്‍ പറഞ്ഞു.

ഡോ. നിജി ജസ്റ്റിന്‍,  ലാലി ജെയിംസ് 

തൃശ്ശൂര്‍ കോര്‍പ്പറേഷനില്‍ 10 വര്‍ഷത്തിന് ശേഷം യു.ഡി.എഫ് അധികാരം തിരിച്ചുപിടിച്ചതോടെയാണ് മേയര്‍ സ്ഥാനത്തിനായി തര്‍ക്കം തുടങ്ങിയത്. നാല് തവണ കൗണ്‍സിലറായ ലാലി ജെയിംസ്, ഡി.സി.സി വൈസ് പ്രസിഡന്റ് ഡോ. നിജി ജസ്റ്റിന്‍, സുബി ബാബു എന്നിവരായിരുന്നു പ്രധാന പരിഗണനയിലുണ്ടായിരുന്നത്. ഇതില്‍ നിജി ജസ്റ്റിനെ മേയറാക്കാന്‍ എ.ഐ.സി.സി നേതൃത്വം താല്‍പ്പര്യം പ്രകടിപ്പിച്ചതാണ് പ്രശ്‌നങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് തുടക്കമിട്ടത്.

മേയര്‍ സ്ഥാനത്തേക്ക് പരിഗണിക്കാതിരുന്നതിനെത്തുടര്‍ന്നാണ് ലാലി ജെയിംസ് ഗുരുതരമായ ആരോപണങ്ങളാണ് ഉയര്‍ത്തിയത്. കോഴ ആരോപണം: മേയറാക്കാന്‍ ഡി.സി.സി പ്രസിഡന്റ് ജോസഫ് ടാജറ്റ് പണം ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ടെന്നും, താന്‍ ഒരു സാധാരണ കര്‍ഷക കുടുംബത്തിലെ അംഗമായതിനാല്‍ പണം നല്‍കാന്‍ സാധിക്കാത്തതുകൊണ്ടാണ് തന്നെ ഒഴിവാക്കിയതെന്നും അവര്‍ ആരോപിച്ചു. തന്നെ അച്ചടക്കം പഠിപ്പിക്കാന്‍ വന്നാല്‍ മുന്‍ പ്രതിപക്ഷ നേതാവ് രാജന്‍ പല്ലന്‍ ഉള്‍പ്പെടെയുള്ളവര്‍ക്കെതിരെ കൂടുതല്‍ വെളിപ്പെടുത്തലുകള്‍ നടത്തുമെന്നും അവര്‍ മുന്നറിയിപ്പ് നല്‍കി.

ഈ പരസ്യമായ കോഴ ആരോപണം രാഷ്ട്രീയ ആയുധമാക്കിക്കൊണ്ടാണ് ആലപ്പുഴ സ്വദേശി കെ.കെ. വിമല്‍ ആണ് വിജിലന്‍സിനെ സമീപിച്ചത്. ലാലി ജെയിംസ് ഉന്നയിച്ച ആരോപണങ്ങളില്‍ ഗൂഢാലോചനയും അഴിമതിയും നടന്നിട്ടുണ്ടോ എന്ന് അന്വേഷിക്കണമെന്നും ജോസഫ് ടാജറ്റിനെതിരെ നടപടി വേണമെന്നുമാണ് പരാതിയിലെ ആവശ്യം.

ജോസഫ് ടാജറ്റിനെതിരെ പാര്‍ട്ടിക്കുള്ളില്‍ നേരത്തെയും പ്രതിഷേധങ്ങള്‍ നിലനിന്നിരുന്നു. തദ്ദേശ തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പില്‍ 20 ലക്ഷം രൂപ വാങ്ങി സീറ്റുകള്‍ മറിച്ചുവിറ്റു എന്നാരോപിച്ച് 'സേവ് കോണ്‍ഗ്രസ് ഫോറം' എന്ന പേരില്‍ നഗരത്തിന്റെ വിവിധ ഭാഗങ്ങളില്‍ പോസ്റ്ററുകള്‍ പ്രത്യക്ഷപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നു.

എന്നാല്‍ ഈ ആരോപണങ്ങളെല്ലാം തോറ്റവരുടെ ജല്പനങ്ങളാണെന്നാണ് ജോസഫ് ടാജറ്റിന്റെ നിലപാട്. ലാലി ജെയിംസിനെതിരെ അച്ചടക്ക നടപടി ഉണ്ടാകുമെന്ന സൂചനയും പാര്‍ട്ടി നല്‍കുന്നുണ്ട്.

നിലവില്‍ ഡോ. നിജി ജസ്റ്റിന്‍ മേയറായും എ. പ്രസാദ് ഡെപ്യൂട്ടി മേയറായും സ്ഥാനമേറ്റതിനു പിന്നാലെയാണ് ഈ വിവാദങ്ങള്‍ കോണ്‍ഗ്രസിന് തലവേദനയായിരിക്കുന്നത്.

Summary: Despite the people handing a significant victory to the Congress in the Thrissur Corporation, the party’s tradition of infighting and backstabbing continues, providing a major political weapon to the Left. The bribery allegations raised against Thrissur DCC President Joseph Taget have emerged as an unexpected humiliation and a setback for the Congress.

A complaint has been filed with the Vigilance Department against Joseph Taget, alleging that he demanded money for the Mayor’s post. K.K. Vimal, a native of Alappuzha, approached the Vigilance and the Chief Minister seeking an investigation. This development is expected to serve as a strategic tool for the Government and the Left, who are currently facing heat over the Sabarimala gold theft allegations.

Lali James, a Congress councillor in the Thrissur Corporation, publicly leveled the bribery charges. She alleged that Joseph Taget demanded money to consider her for the Mayor’s post and that she was sidelined because she could not afford it. By investigating this claim, the government can expose the Congress party; questions are already being raised about how those who cannot manage a Corporation or Panchayat can govern the state.

Lali James further alleged that the currently appointed Mayor, Niji Justin, secured the position by paying money and that Niji and her husband met AICC leaders with "suitcases" (cash). This has put the entire leadership under a cloud of suspicion.

In response, Joseph Taget stated that Dr. Niji Justin was selected as Mayor following a Parliamentary Party decision and dismissed the bribery allegations as baseless. He mockingly asked whom Lali James had given "suitcases" to during the four times she contested elections.

Mayor Niji Justin clarified that she has been in politics for 27 years and remains undeterred by controversies. She added that it is up to the party to respond to such allegations.

The dispute over the Mayor’s post began after the UDF recaptured power in the Thrissur Corporation after a 10-year gap. The primary contenders were four-time councillor Lali James, DCC Vice President Dr. Niji Justin, and Subi Babu. The friction started when the AICC leadership showed a preference for Niji Justin.

Following her exclusion, Lali James made several serious allegations:

Bribery Charge: She claimed DCC President Joseph Taget demanded money to make her Mayor, and since she hails from a regular farming family, she was excluded for her inability to pay.

Warning: She warned that if the party attempted to teach her "discipline," she would make further revelations against leaders, including former Opposition Leader Rajan Pallan.

K.K. Vimal used these public allegations as grounds to approach the Vigilance. The complaint demands an investigation into whether any conspiracy or corruption took place regarding Lali James' claims and calls for action against Joseph Taget.

Protests against Joseph Taget have existed within the party previously. During the local body elections, posters by the "Save Congress Forum" appeared across the city alleging that seats were sold for 20 lakh rupees.

However, Joseph Taget maintains that these allegations are merely the "ramblings of those who lost." There are also indications that the party may take disciplinary action against Lali James.

These controversies have become a major headache for the Congress, coming right as Dr. Niji Justin and A. Prasad took office as Mayor and Deputy Mayor, respectively.
