തിരുവനന്തപുരം : തിരുവനന്തപുരം കോര്‍പറേഷനില്‍ മേയറായി ബി.ജെ.പി സംസ്ഥാന പ്രസിഡന്റ് രാജീവ് ചന്ദ്രശേഖര്‍ നിശ്ചയിച്ചിരുന്നത് മുന്‍ ഐ.പി.എസ് ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥ ആര്‍. ശ്രീലേഖയെ ആയിരുന്നുവെന്നും എന്നാല്‍ ആര്‍ എസ് എസ് ഇടപെട്ട് ആ പേരു വെട്ടുകയായിരുന്നുവെന്നും റിപ്പോര്‍ട്ട്.

ആര്‍.എസ്.എസിന്റെ ശക്തമായ ഇടപെടലിലൂടെയാണ് വി.വി. രാജേഷിനെ മേയറാക്കാന്‍ തീരുമാനിച്ചത്. പാര്‍ട്ടിക്കായി സമരങ്ങള്‍ നയിക്കുകയും മുന്‍നിരയില്‍ നിന്ന് പ്രവര്‍ത്തിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തവര്‍ക്ക് പ്രാധാന്യം നല്‍കണമെന്ന സന്ദേശമാണ് ആര്‍.എസ്.എസ് പാര്‍ട്ടിയുടെ ദേശീയ നേതൃത്വത്തിന് നല്‍കിയത്. കഴിഞ്ഞ വര്‍ഷം മാത്രം പാര്‍ട്ടിയിലെത്തിയ ശ്രീലേഖയെപ്പോലെ ഒരാളെ മേയറാക്കുന്നത് പാര്‍ട്ടി പ്രവര്‍ത്തകര്‍ക്ക് തെറ്റായ സന്ദേശം നല്‍കുമെന്നും ആര്‍.എസ്.എസ് അമിത് ഷാ ഉള്‍പ്പെടെയുള്ളവരെ അറിയിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു.

ഭരണപരിചയമുള്ള ഒരാള്‍ വരണമെന്ന താല്‍പ്പര്യത്തിലായിരുന്നു സംസ്ഥാന നേതൃത്വം. എന്നാല്‍ പാര്‍ട്ടി കേഡറുകള്‍ക്കിടയില്‍ സ്വാധീനമുള്ള വി.വി. രാജേഷിനെ തന്നെ നിയമിക്കണമെന്ന ആര്‍.എസ്.എസിന്റെയും ഒരു വിഭാഗം നേതാക്കളുടെയും കടുത്ത സമ്മര്‍ദ്ദത്തിന് ഒടുവില്‍ പാര്‍ട്ടി വഴങ്ങുകയായിരുന്നു.

നിയമസഭാ തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പ് വരാനിരിക്കുന്ന സാഹചര്യത്തില്‍ രാഷ്ട്രീയ പാരമ്പര്യമുള്ള ഒരാള്‍ മേയറാകുന്നത് ജില്ലയിലെ ബി.ജെ.പിയുടെ സാധ്യതകള്‍ വര്‍ദ്ധിപ്പിക്കുമെന്ന് വി. മുരളീധരനും കെ. സുരേന്ദ്രനും ദേശീയ നേതൃത്വത്തെ അറിയിച്ചു. ഇവരുടെ പിന്തുണയും ഫലത്തില്‍ രാജേഷിന് അനുകൂലമായി.

മേയര്‍ സ്ഥാനത്തേക്ക് അഭിപ്രായം തേടാനായി നിയോഗിച്ച സമിതി, 'സംസ്ഥാന പ്രസിഡന്റിന്റെ മനസ്സിലുള്ള പേരിന് പിന്തുണ നല്‍കുമോ' എന്നാണ് കൗണ്‍സിലര്‍മാരോട് ചോദിച്ചത്. സംസ്ഥാന പ്രസിഡന്റിന്റെ മനസ്സിലുള്ളത് ശ്രീലേഖ മാത്രമായിരുന്നുവെന്നു വ്യക്തമായിരുന്നു. ഈ തന്ത്രം രാജേഷ് പക്ഷത്തെ കൗണ്‍സിലര്‍മാര്‍ ആര്‍.എസ്.എസിനെ അറിയിച്ചതോടെയാണ് ഇടപെടല്‍ ശക്തമായത്.

ബി.ജെ.പിക്ക് ഭരണം ലഭിച്ചിട്ടും തന്നെ മേയര്‍ സ്ഥാനത്തേക്ക് പരിഗണിക്കാതിരുന്നതില്‍ ആര്‍. ശ്രീലേഖ വലിയ നിരാശയിലാണ്. ബി.ജെ.പി സംസ്ഥാന അധ്യക്ഷന്‍ രാജീവ് ചന്ദ്രശേഖര്‍ നേരിട്ട് ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ടതനുസരിച്ചാണ് താന്‍ മത്സരിക്കാന്‍ തയ്യാറായതെന്നാണ് അവരുടെ പക്ഷം.

മേയര്‍ സ്ഥാനാര്‍ത്ഥിയായി ഉയര്‍ത്തിക്കാട്ടിയാണ് തന്നെ തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പ് ഗോദയില്‍ ഇറക്കിയതെന്നും, എന്നാല്‍ വിജയിച്ചു കഴിഞ്ഞപ്പോള്‍ ആര്‍.എസ്.എസ് ഇടപെടലിലൂടെ മറ്റൊരാളെ നിശ്ചയിച്ചത് അംഗീകരിക്കാനാവില്ലെന്നും ശ്രീലേഖ അടുപ്പക്കാരോട് വ്യക്തമാക്കിയതായാണ് റിപ്പോര്‍ട്ട്.

മേയര്‍ സ്ഥാനത്തേക്ക് വി.വി. രാജേഷിനെ ഔദ്യോഗികമായി പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചതിന് പിന്നാലെ, ബി.ജെ.പി കൗണ്‍സിലര്‍മാരുടെ ഔദ്യോഗിക വാട്‌സാപ്പ് ഗ്രൂപ്പില്‍ നിന്ന് ശ്രീലേഖ പുറത്തുപോയി. ഇത് തന്റെ പ്രതിഷേധം പരസ്യമായി പ്രകടിപ്പിക്കുന്നതിന്റെ ഭാഗമായാണ് വിലയിരുത്തപ്പെടുന്നത്.

രാഷ്ട്രീയത്തില്‍ തുടക്കക്കാരിയായ തനിക്ക് ലഭിച്ച ഈ അവഗണനയില്‍ ശ്രീലേഖ കടുത്ത പ്രതിഷേധത്തിലാണെന്നും കൗണ്‍സിലര്‍ സ്ഥാനത്ത് തുടരുന്ന കാര്യത്തില്‍ ഉള്‍പ്പെടെ അവര്‍ പുനര്‍ചിന്തനം നടത്താന്‍ സാധ്യതയുണ്ടെന്നും പറയപ്പെടുന്നു. എന്നാല്‍, വട്ടിയൂര്‍കാവില്‍ നിയമസഭാ സീറ്റില്‍ മത്സരിപ്പിക്കുകയോ ദേശീയ വനിതാ കമ്മിഷന്‍ അദ്ധ്യക്ഷ പദവി നല്കുകയോ ചെയ്യാമെന്ന വാഗാദാനമാണ് ഇപ്പോള്‍ ശ്രീലേഖയ്ക്കു ലഭിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നതെന്നാണ് അറിയുന്നത്.

The RSS Stance

The RSS leadership took a firm stand, conveying to the party’s national leadership that priority must be given to those who have led party struggles and worked on the frontlines for years. They reportedly informed top leaders, including Amit Shah, that appointing someone like Sreelekha—who joined the party only last year—over seasoned veterans would send a wrong message to the dedicated party cadre.

Strategic Pressure

While the state leadership preferred Sreelekha for her administrative experience, the RSS and a section of BJP leaders insisted on V.V. Rajesh due to his deep influence among party workers. Leaders like V. Muraleedharan and K. Surendran also supported Rajesh, arguing that a Mayor with a strong political background would boost the BJP’s prospects in the district for the upcoming Assembly elections.

The Selection Drama

A committee appointed to gather opinions from councilors reportedly asked if they would "support the name in the State President’s mind." Since it was clear that the President’s choice was Sreelekha, councilors loyal to the Rajesh faction alerted the RSS.

Given that Rajeev Chandrasekhar had received significant support from the RSS during the election campaign, he found it difficult to oppose their directive. Ultimately, the central leadership and the RSS prioritized the sentiments of the grassroots workers, overriding the State President's preference.

Sreelekha’s Disappointment

R. Sreelekha is reportedly deeply disappointed by the decision. According to sources close to her, she agreed to contest only after being personally requested by Rajeev Chandrasekhar and being projected as the mayoral candidate.

Leaving Official Groups: Shortly after V.V. Rajesh’s name was officially announced, she exited the BJP councilors' official WhatsApp group.

Absence from Ceremony: She skipped the official announcement ceremony at the party headquarters, despite direct invitations from the leadership.

Future Prospects

There are murmurs that Sreelekha is reconsidering her position as a councilor due to this perceived neglect. To pacify her, reports suggest the party may offer her a seat in the Vattiyoorkavu constituency for the upcoming Assembly elections or a high-profile position such as the Chairperson of the National Commission for Women.
