കൊച്ചിയിൽ കൂറ്റൻ ജലസംഭരണി തകർന്നു; വ്യാപക നാശനഷ്ടം

Massive Water Tank Collapses in Kochi's Thammanam; Widespread Damage

കൊച്ചി: എറണാകുളം തമ്മനത്ത് കേരള വാട്ടർ അതോറിറ്റിയുടെ ഉടമസ്ഥതയിലുള്ള കൂറ്റൻ കുടിവെള്ള സംഭരണിയുടെ ഒരു ഭിത്തി തകർന്ന് വൻ അപകടം. ഇന്ന്  പുലർച്ചെ ഏകദേശം മൂന്നു മണിയോടെയാണ് സംഭവം.

1.35 കോടി ലിറ്റർ സംഭരണശേഷിയുള്ള ടാങ്കിന്റെ ഒരു ഭാഗമാണ് തകർന്നത്. അപകടസമയത്ത് ടാങ്കിൽ ഏകദേശം 1.15 കോടി ലിറ്റർ വെള്ളം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. ഈ വെള്ളം അതിശക്തമായി റോഡുകളിലേക്കും സമീപത്തെ വീടുകളിലേക്കും കുതിച്ചെത്തി.

സംഭരണിയുടെ പിന്നിലായുള്ള പത്തോളം വീടുകളിൽ വെള്ളം കയറി. നിരവധി വീടുകളുടെ മതിലുകൾ തകർന്നു. ഓട്ടോറിക്ഷകളും ഇരുചക്ര വാഹനങ്ങളും ഉൾപ്പെടെയുള്ള വാഹനങ്ങൾ വെള്ളത്തിൽ ഒഴുകിപ്പോവുകയും കേടുപാടുകൾ സംഭവിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. വീട്ടുപകരണങ്ങൾ നശിച്ചു.

പുത്തൻപാടം ഹെൽത്ത് സെന്റർ ഉൾപ്പെടെയുള്ള സ്ഥാപനങ്ങളിലും വെള്ളം കയറി. അപകടം പുലർച്ചെയായതിനാൽ ആളുകൾ ഉറങ്ങിക്കിടക്കുകയായിരുന്നു. എങ്കിലും, ഭാഗ്യം കൊണ്ടാണ് വലിയൊരു ദുരന്തം ഒഴിവായത്.

ജലവിതരണം തടസ്സപ്പെടും: കൊച്ചി നഗരത്തിന്റെ പല ഭാഗങ്ങളിലേക്കും കുടിവെള്ളം എത്തിക്കുന്ന പ്രധാന സംഭരണിയാണിത്. ടാങ്ക് തകർന്നതിനെ തുടർന്ന് കൊച്ചി നഗരത്തിൽ, പ്രത്യേകിച്ച് തൃപ്പൂണിത്തുറ, പേട്ട തുടങ്ങിയ മേഖലകളിൽ ഇന്ന് ജലവിതരണം പൂർണ്ണമായും മുടങ്ങാൻ സാധ്യതയുണ്ട്.

തകർന്ന ജലസംഭരണിക്ക് 40 വർഷത്തിലേറെ പഴക്കമുണ്ട്. ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥരും ജനപ്രതിനിധികളും സ്ഥലത്തെത്തി സ്ഥിതിഗതികൾ വിലയിരുത്തുകയും അറ്റകുറ്റപ്പണികൾക്കും നാശനഷ്ടങ്ങൾ വിലയിരുത്തുന്നതിനും വേണ്ട നടപടികൾ സ്വീകരിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തുവരുന്നു. 

 Summary: A major accident occurred in Ernakulam's Thammanam after one wall of a massive drinking water storage tank, owned by the Kerala Water Authority, collapsed. The incident took place around 3:00 AM today (November 10, 2025).

• Scale of the Accident: A section of the tank, which has a capacity of 13.5 million liters (1.35 crore liters), gave way. The tank reportedly contained approximately 11.5 million liters of water at the time of the collapse. This water rushed out with tremendous force, flooding roads and nearby homes.

• Damage Reported:

  • Water entered around ten houses located behind the reservoir.

  • Boundary walls of several houses were destroyed.

  • Vehicles, including auto-rickshaws and two-wheelers, were washed away and sustained damage.

  • Household items were destroyed.

  • Reports indicate that institutions, including the Puthenpadam Health Centre, were also flooded.

• No Casualties: A major disaster was narrowly avoided, as the collapse occurred in the early hours while people were asleep. Fortunately, no fatalities have been reported.

• Water Supply Disruption: This is a crucial reservoir supplying drinking water to many parts of Kochi city. Due to the tank's collapse, the water supply is likely to be completely cut off today in areas of Kochi, particularly Thrippunithura and Petta.

• Age: The collapsed reservoir is over 40 years old.

• Actions Taken: Officials and people's representatives have arrived at the site to assess the situation and initiate measures for repairs and damage evaluation.
