News in English:
Kochi: Latha Nair, an accused in the Kaviyoor and Kiliroor sex scandal cases, has been arrested by the Thrikkakara police for allegedly defrauding a Thiruvananthapuram native of 35 lakh rupees.
Alongside Latha Nair, the police have also apprehended Anil Kumar (alias Swami Nithya Chaitanya), Sunil Kumar, and Sindhu. One more suspect remains to be arrested in the case. Police have received information that Latha Nair has similarly cheated several others using identical methods.
The fraud was operated under the guise of a frozen food company named "Frozen Food" located at the Kakkanad Special Economic Zone (SEZ). Two years ago, the accused took money from the victim by promising to return fourfold the invested amount. They convinced him that the company was running at a loss and that investing would secure him a board membership.
Latha Nair had introduced herself to the young man under the name Indra Menon, falsely claiming to be a director of the company. The complainant only realized much later that the person who deceived him was Latha Nair, the accused in the Kiliroor-Kaviyoor case.
She also made the victim believe that she belonged to a royal family. He approached the police after failing to get his money back even after two years.
Police investigations subsequently revealed that Latha Nair was the primary perpetrator. Four people have been taken into custody in connection with the case.
