2026 ജൂണില് നടന്ന വാര്ഷിക ജനറല് ബോഡി യോഗത്തില്, സാമ്പത്തിക കാര്യങ്ങളിലെ തര്ക്കങ്ങളെയും ആഭ്യന്തര കലഹങ്ങളെയും തുടര്ന്ന് ശ്വേതാ മേനോനും 17 അംഗ എക്സിക്യൂട്ടീവ് കമ്മിറ്റിയും കൂട്ടരാജി പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചിരുന്നു. എന്നാല്, രേഖാമൂലം രാജി സമര്പ്പിച്ചിരുന്നുമില്ല.

They allege that Shwetha Menon is trying to steer AMMA, a cultural organization, towards a specific political agenda. They stated that such corporate and political interests cannot be imposed on an organization whose members hold diverse political beliefs.
In June 2026, during the Annual General Body meeting, Shwetha Menon and the 17-member executive committee announced a mass resignation following disputes over financial matters and internal feuds. However, they did not submit their resignations in writing.
Following the resignation announcement, an ad-hoc committee led by Ramesh Pisharody was formed to manage the daily affairs of the organization. However, Shwetha Menon approached the Ernakulam Munsiff Court, arguing that the formation of this committee was illegal, and secured a temporary stay on its functioning.
Meanwhile, an audio clip of a phone conversation between Shwetha Menon and Ramesh Pisharody circulated in the media. The opposing faction alleges that Shwetha Menon partially edited and leaked this audio message to suit her political agenda.
During the press conference, it was also alleged that some members of the governing body hurled communal slurs at actress Ansiba Hassan for opposing the acceptance of funds from a temple trust (maintaining the stance that political and religious organizations should be kept away from cinema).
Shwetha Menon has not explicitly responded to the financial allegations leveled against her. However, she clarified on social media that senior actors, including Mammootty and Mohanlal, have extended their support and asked her to move forward strongly. Shwetha Menon maintains that the majority of the organization stands with her, and these controversies are manufactured by a small group trying to capture the organization through the backdoor rather than through a democratic election.
The Ernakulam Munsiff Court will hear arguments again in the coming days to decide on AMMA's subsequent administrative matters.
Earlier, in August 2024, the Justice Hema Committee report, formed by the government following persistent demands from WCC (Women in Cinema Collective)—a women's collective in Malayalam cinema—was released. The report contained damning remarks about casting couches, sexual exploitation, and the interference of mafia groups (Power Groups) in the film industry, bringing disrepute to AMMA.
Immediately after the report's release, several actresses publicly leveled sexual exploitation allegations against prominent leaders of AMMA. Following a serious sexual harassment allegation raised by a young actress, General Secretary Siddique resigned from his post.
The organization was pushed further onto the defensive when allegations surfaced against Baburaj (Vice President), who was supposed to take over the responsibility after Siddique. Complaints were also raised against executive committee members, including Jayasurya and Maniyanpilla Raju.
As the allegations completely shattered the organization's image, the 17-member executive committee led by Mohanlal decided to resign en masse.
Mohanlal and his team stepped down, declaring, "Accepting the moral responsibility of the organization, the current governing body is being dissolved." Following this, the daily affairs of the organization (such as monthly financial aid for veteran actors, insurance, etc.) were managed by the ad-hoc committee.
Subsequently, a new women-centric committee led by Shwetha Menon and Kukku Parameswaran was appointed to take charge of the administration. Controversies began brewing from the very day this committee took office, culminating in the mass resignation announcement of the governing body at the last General Body meeting and their current stance that they have not resigned.
