കോഴിക്കോട്: കോഴിക്കോട് സ്വദേശിയായ വ്യവസായി ഹേമചന്ദ്രനെ തട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടുപോയി കൊലപ്പെടുത്തിയ കേസില് ദീര്ഘനാളായി ഒളിവില് കഴിഞ്ഞിരുന്ന മുഖ്യപ്രതി ലീബ (41) കരിപ്പൂര് അന്താരാഷ്ട്ര വിമാനത്താവളത്തില് പിടിയിലായി. വിദേശത്തുനിന്ന് എത്തിയ ഇവരെ മുന്പ് പുറപ്പെടുവിച്ചിരുന്ന ലുക്കൗട്ട് നോട്ടീസിന്റെ അടിസ്ഥാനത്തിലാണ് പോലീസ് കസ്റ്റഡിയിലെടുത്തത്.
കണ്ണൂര് ഉളിക്കല് സ്വദേശിനിയായ ലീബ, ഹേമചന്ദ്രനില് നിന്ന് പണം തട്ടിയെടുക്കാന് ലക്ഷ്യമിട്ട് നടത്തിയ ഹണിട്രാപ്പ് ആസൂത്രണത്തിലെ പ്രധാന കണ്ണിയാണ്. അന്വേഷണ സംഘത്തിന്റെ കണ്ടെത്തല് പ്രകാരം, ഹേമചന്ദ്രനെ പരിചയപ്പെട്ട് തന്ത്രപരമായി ഒരു പ്രത്യേക സ്ഥലത്തേക്ക് ആകര്ഷിക്കാന് സംഘം ലീബയെയാണ് ഉപയോഗിച്ചത്. ഇത് അദ്ദേഹത്തെ തട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടുപോകുന്നതിലേക്ക് നയിച്ചു.
2025 സെപ്റ്റംബറില് പൊലീസ് സമര്പ്പിച്ച 445 പേജുള്ള കുറ്റപത്രം പ്രകാരം, ഹണിട്രാപ്പ് ഒരുക്കുക എന്നതായിരുന്നു ലിബയുടെ ചുമതല. ഹേമചന്ദ്രനെ ഫോണില് വിളിച്ച് കോഴിക്കോട് മെഡിക്കല് കോളേജ് പരിസരത്തേക്ക് ആകര്ഷിച്ചു വരുത്തിയത് ലിബയായിരുന്നു. ഇവിടെ വച്ചാണ് പ്രതികള് ഹേമചന്ദ്രനെ തട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടുപോയത്.
വിമാനത്താവളത്തില് വച്ച് പിടിയിലായ ഇവരെ മെഡിക്കല് പരിശോധനകള്ക്കും മറ്റ് ഔദ്യോഗിക നടപടികള്ക്കുമായി മെഡിക്കല് കോളേജ് പോലീസ് സ്റ്റേഷനിലേക്ക് കൊണ്ടുപോയി. തുടര്ന്ന് കോടതിയില് ഹാജരാക്കും.
വയനാട് സുല്ത്താന് ബത്തേരി സ്വദേശിയായ ഹേമചന്ദ്രന് (52) കോഴിക്കോട് മായനാട് വാടകയ്ക്ക് താമസിച്ച് സ്വകാര്യ ചിട്ടി ബിസിനസ് നടത്തിവരികയായിരുന്നു. മായനാട്ടുള്ള വാടകവീട്ടില് നിന്ന് ഹേമചന്ദ്രനെ കാണാതായി. തുടര്ന്ന് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ഭാര്യ മെഡിക്കല് കോളേജ് പോലീസ് സ്റ്റേഷനില് പരാതി നല്കി.
പ്രത്യേക അന്വേഷണ സംഘം നടത്തിയ ശാസ്ത്രീയവും സാങ്കേതികവുമായ അന്വേഷണത്തിനൊടുവില്, തമിഴ്നാട്ടിലെ ചേരമ്പാടിയുള്ള ഉള്ക്കാട്ടില് രഹസ്യമായി കുഴിച്ചുമൂടിയ നിലയില് ഹേമചന്ദ്രന്റെ മൃതദേഹം കണ്ടെത്തി. ഡിഎന്എ പരിശോധനയിലൂടെയാണ് ഇത് ഹേമചന്ദ്രനാണെന്ന് സ്ഥിരീകരിച്ചത്.
ഗൂഢാലോചനയില് പങ്കാളികളായ മറ്റ് അഞ്ച് പ്രതികളെ പോലീസ് ഘട്ടങ്ങളായി അറസ്റ്റ് ചെയ്തു. കൊലപാതകത്തിന്റെ മുഖ്യസൂത്രധാരന് പി.വി. നൗഷാദ്, കൂട്ടാളികളായ ജ്യോതിഷ് കുമാര്, ബി.എസ്. അജേഷ്, വി.വി. വൈശാഖ്, മെല്ബിന് മാത്യു എന്നിവരാണ് ആദ്യം പിടിയിലായത്.
കൃത്യം നടന്നയുടന് വിദേശത്തേക്ക് കടന്ന ലീബ, തിരികെ കരിപ്പൂര് വിമാനത്താവളത്തില് എത്തിയതോടെ പിടിയിലാവുകയും കേസിലെ പ്രധാന പ്രതികളെല്ലാം നിയമത്തിന് മുന്നിലെത്തുകയും ചെയ്തിരിക്കുകയാണ്.
ക്രൂരമായ ശാരീരിക മര്ദ്ദനമേറ്റതാണ് ഹേമചന്ദ്രന്റെ മരണത്തിന് കാരണമായതെന്ന് പോസ്റ്റ്മോര്ട്ടം റിപ്പോര്ട്ടില് വ്യക്തമായിരുന്നു.
ഹേമചന്ദ്രനും കേസിലെ മുഖ്യസൂത്രധാരനായ പി.വി. നൗഷാദും തമ്മിലുണ്ടായിരുന്ന വലിയ സാമ്പത്തിക തര്ക്കങ്ങളാണ് കൊലപാതകത്തിലേക്ക് നയിച്ചതെന്നാണ് പോലീസ് കണ്ടെത്തല്. ഹേമചന്ദ്രനെ തട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടുപോയി ഭീഷണിപ്പെടുത്തി പണം തട്ടിയെടുക്കാനും സാമ്പത്തിക രേഖകളില് ഒപ്പിടുവിക്കാനുമായിരുന്നു സംഘത്തിന്റെ പദ്ധതി. എന്നാല് തര്ക്കം രൂക്ഷമായതോടെ ഇവര് അദ്ദേഹത്തെ ക്രൂരമായി മര്ദ്ദിച്ച് കൊലപ്പെടുത്തുകയും, തെളിവ് നശിപ്പിക്കുന്നതിനായി മൃതദേഹം അതിര്ത്തി കടത്തി ചേരമ്പാടി വനത്തില് കുഴിച്ചിടുകയുമായിരുന്നു.
ചിട്ടി കമ്പനി വഴി പണം ഇരട്ടിയാക്കി നല്കാമെന്ന് വാഗ്ദാനം ചെയ്ത് ഹേമചന്ദ്രന് പലരില് നിന്നായി വന് തുക കൈപ്പറ്റിയിരുന്നതായി പറയപ്പെടുന്നു. കൊലപാതകത്തിന് ശേഷം, ഹേമചന്ദ്രന് ജീവിച്ചിരിപ്പുണ്ടെന്നും കര്ണാടകയില് ഒളിവിലാണെന്നും വരുത്തിത്തീര്ക്കാന് പ്രതികള് പൊലീസിനെ തെറ്റിദ്ധരിപ്പിക്കാന് ശ്രമിച്ചിരുന്നു. ഇതിനായി അവര് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ മൊബൈല് ഫോണ് ഗുണ്ടല്പേട്ടിലെത്തിച്ച് ഓണ് ചെയ്തു.
ഈ ഫോണിലേക്ക് ഒടുവില് ഒരു കോള് വന്നപ്പോള്, മറുതലയ്ക്കല് സംസാരിച്ച ആളുടെ ശബ്ദത്തില് ഹേമചന്ദ്രന്റെ മകള്ക്ക് സംശയം തോന്നി. മകള്ക്കുണ്ടായ ഈ വലിയ സംശയമാണ് കേസിന്റെ മറനീക്കി യഥാര്ത്ഥ പ്രതികളിലേക്ക് എത്താന് പൊലീസിന് വഴിത്തിരിവായത്.
ഒന്നാം പ്രതി നൗഷാദും വിദേശത്തേക്കു മുങ്ങിയിരുന്നു. പിന്നീട്, ബെംഗളൂരു വിമാനത്താവളത്തില് വച്ച് അറസ്റ്റിലാകുന്നതിന് മുമ്പ്, നൗഷാദ് സോഷ്യല് മീഡിയയിലൂടെ പ്രസ്താവന നടത്തിയിരുന്നു. ഹേമചന്ദ്രനെ തങ്ങള് കൊലപ്പെടുത്തിയതല്ലെന്നും, ബത്തേരിയിലെ ഒരു വീട്ടില് വച്ച് സാമ്പത്തിക ബാധ്യത കാരണം അദ്ദേഹം ആത്മഹത്യ ചെയ്തതാണെന്നും, പരിഭ്രാന്തി മൂലം തങ്ങള് മൃതദേഹം വനത്തില് കൊണ്ടുപോയി കുഴിച്ചിടുകയുമായിരുന്നു എന്നുമായിരുന്നു നൗഷാദിന്റെ വാദം. എന്നാല്, ഹേമചന്ദ്രന്റേത് ക്രൂരമായ മര്ദ്ദനത്തെത്തുടര്ന്നുള്ള കൊലപാതകമാണെന്ന് പോസ്റ്റ്മോര്ട്ടം റിപ്പോര്ട്ട് വ്യക്തമാക്കിയതോടെ ഈ വാദം പൂര്ണ്ണമായും പൊളിഞ്ഞു.
കൊലപാതകം, തട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടുപോകല്, ഗൂഢാലോചന, തെളിവ് നശിപ്പിക്കല് ഉള്പ്പെടെ ഏഴോളം വകുപ്പുകള് ചുമത്തി ആറ് പേര്ക്കെതിരെയാണ് പൊലീസ് കുറ്റപത്രം സമര്പ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്:
പി. നൗഷാദ് (33, ബത്തേരി): കൊലപാതകത്തിന്റെ പ്രധാന സൂത്രധാരന്.
ജ്യോതിഷ് കുമാര് (35, ബത്തേരി), വി.എസ്. അജേഷ് (27, വെള്ളപ്പന): ഹേമചന്ദ്രനെ തട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടുപോകാനും മൃതദേഹം കാട്ടില് കുഴിച്ചിടാനും നൗഷാദിനെ നേരിട്ട് സഹായിച്ച കൂട്ടാളികള്.
വി.ആര്. വൈശാഖ് (35): കുറ്റകൃത്യത്തിന്റെ ഗൂഢാലോചനയിലും നടത്തിപ്പിലും നേരിട്ട് പങ്കെടുത്തയാള്.
മെല്ബിന് മാത്യു (23): തട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടുപോയതിന് ശേഷം ഹേമചന്ദ്രനെക്കൊണ്ട് നിര്ബന്ധിതമായി ഒപ്പിടുവിച്ച സാമ്പത്തിക കരാറിന് സാക്ഷിയാവുകയും, കൊലപാതകവിവരം പൊലീസില് നിന്ന് മറച്ചുവയ്ക്കുകയും ചെയ്തയാള്.
ലിബ (41, കണ്ണൂര്): ഹേമചന്ദ്രനെ തട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടുപോകാന് ഹണിട്രാപ്പ് ഒരുക്കി.
ഇരുനൂറിലധികം ഫോണ് കോള് രേഖകളും വിപുലമായ സിസിടിവി ദൃശ്യങ്ങളും പരിശോധിച്ചും, ശാസ്ത്രീയമായ ഡിഎന്എ പരിശോധനയിലൂടെയുമാണ് പ്രത്യേക അന്വേഷണസംഘം ഈ കേസിന്റെ ചുരുളഴിച്ചത്.
Summary: Leeba (41), a key accused who had been absconding for a long time in the case involving the abduction and murder of Kozhikode-based businessman Hemachandran, has been arrested at the Karipur International Airport. She was taken into custody by the police upon her arrival from abroad, based on a lookout notice previously issued against her.
Leeba, a native of Ulikkal in Kannur, is a major link in the honey-trap plot orchestrated with the intention of extorting money from Hemachandran. According to the investigation team's findings, the gang used Leeba to get acquainted with Hemachandran and tactfully lure him to a specific location, which eventually led to his abduction.
According to the 445-page chargesheet submitted by the police in September 2025, Leeba's responsibility was to set up the honey trap. It was Leeba who called Hemachandran over the phone and lured him to the vicinity of the Kozhikode Medical College, from where the accused abducted him.
Following her arrest at the airport, she was taken to the Medical College Police Station for medical examinations and other official procedures. She will subsequently be produced before the court.
Background of the Case
Hemachandran (52), a native of Sulthan Bathery in Wayanad, was residing in a rented house at Mayanad in Kozhikode and running a private chit-fund business. When Hemachandran went missing from his rented house in Mayanad, his wife filed a complaint at the Medical College Police Station.
Following a scientific and technical investigation conducted by a special investigation team, Hemachandran's body was found secretly buried deep inside the Cherambadi forest in Tamil Nadu. It was officially confirmed through DNA testing that the body belonged to Hemachandran.
The police arrested the other five accused involved in the conspiracy in a phased manner. The prime mastermind of the murder, P.V. Naushad, and his accomplices Jyothish Kumar, B.S. Ajesh, V.V. Vaisakh, and Melbin Mathew were apprehended first.
With Leeba, who fled abroad immediately after the crime, being arrested upon her return to Karipur airport, all the primary accused in the case have now been brought to justice.
The Motive and Cover-Up Attempt
The post-mortem report clearly indicated that severe physical assault was the cause of Hemachandran's death.
The police found that massive financial disputes between Hemachandran and the prime mastermind, P.V. Naushad, led to the murder. The gang's plan was to abduct Hemachandran, threaten him to extort money, and force him to sign financial documents. However, as the dispute escalated, they brutally assaulted and killed him. To destroy evidence, they moved the body across the state border and buried it in the Cherambadi forest.
Hemachandran had reportedly collected large sums of money from multiple people by promising to double their money through his chit-fund company.
Following the murder, the accused tried to mislead the police by making it appear as though Hemachandran was still alive and hiding in Karnataka. For this purpose, they took his mobile phone to Gundlupet and switched it on.
When a call finally connected to that phone, Hemachandran's daughter noticed a discrepancy in the voice of the person speaking on the other end. This major suspicion raised by his daughter became the ultimate turning point for the police to uncover the truth and track down the real culprits.
The prime accused, Naushad, had also fled abroad initially. Later, before being arrested at the Bengaluru airport, Naushad released a statement on social media claiming that they did not murder Hemachandran. His defense was that Hemachandran had committed suicide in a house in Bathery due to financial liabilities, and out of panic, they took the body and buried it in the forest. However, this claim completely fell apart after the post-mortem report confirmed that Hemachandran's death was a murder resulting from brutal torture.
The Accused and Charges
The police have filed a chargesheet framing six individuals under seven distinct sections of the law, including murder, kidnapping, conspiracy, and destruction of evidence:
P. Naushad (33, Bathery): The prime mastermind behind the murder.
Jyothish Kumar (35, Bathery) & V.S. Ajesh (27, Vellappana): Accomplices who directly assisted Naushad in abducting Hemachandran and burying the body in the forest.
V.R. Vaisakh (35): Participated directly in the conspiracy and execution of the crime.
Melbin Mathew (23): Acted as a witness to the forced financial agreement signed by Hemachandran after his abduction, and actively concealed the murder information from the police.
Leeba (41, Kannur): Set up the honey trap to abduct Hemachandran.
The special investigation team cracked the mystery of this case by analyzing over 200 phone call records, extensive CCTV footage, and relying on scientific DNA profiling.
