എയര്‍ബസ് എ321251എന്‍ വിഭാഗത്തില്‍പ്പെട്ട 6ഇ 6115 നമ്പര്‍ വിമാനത്തിലാണ് തീപിടിത്തമുണ്ടായത്. വഴിതിരിച്ചുവിടുന്നതിന് മുമ്പ് ഉച്ചയ്ക്ക് 1:10-ന് പുറപ്പെടാന്‍ നിശ്ചയിച്ചിരുന്നെങ്കിലും 1:30-നാണ് പുറപ്പെട്ടത്. വൈകുന്നേരം 4:00 മണിക്ക് ചെന്നൈയിലെത്തേണ്ടതായിരുന്നു.
