Youth Found Alive in Punjab Jail 15 Days After His Funeral

മരിച്ചെന്ന് കരുതി മൃതദേഹം സംസ്കരിച്ച് 15 ദിവസത്തിന് ശേഷമാണ് രവി കുമാര് എന്ന യുവാവ് ജയിലില് ജീവനോടെയുണ്ടെന്ന ഫോണ് സന്ദേശം കുടുംബത്തിന് ലഭിക്കുന്നത്. ഓഗസ്റ്റ് അഞ്ചിന് രവി കുമാറിനെ വീട്ടില് നിന്ന് കാണാതായി. തുടര്ന്നു കുടുംബം തിരച്ചില് നടത്തിയെങ്കിലും കണ്ടെത്താനായില്ല.
തിരച്ചില് പരാജയപ്പെട്ടതിനെ തുടര്ന്ന് കുടുംബം ഓഗസ്റ്റ് 11ന് കപൂര്ത്തല സിറ്റി പോലീസ് സ്റ്റേഷനില് പരാതി നല്കി. ഓഗസ്റ്റ് 13ന് കത്തിക്കരിഞ്ഞ നിലയില് കണ്ടെത്തിയ ഒരു യുവാവിന്റെ മൃതദേഹത്തിന്റെ ചിത്രങ്ങള് പോലീസ് കുടുംബത്തെ കാണിച്ചു. അത് രവി കുമാറാണെന്ന് കുടുംബവും ബന്ധുക്കളും തെറ്റായി തിരിച്ചറിയുകയും തുടര്ന്ന് സംസ്കാര ചടങ്ങുകള് നടത്തുകയും ചെയ്തു.
സെപ്റ്റംബര് 2ന് കപൂര്ത്തല സെന്ട്രല് ജയിലിലെ ഒരു ജീവനക്കാരന് രവി കുമാറിന്റെ കുടുംബത്തെ ഫോണില് വിളിച്ച് രവി ജയിലിലുണ്ടെന്ന വിവരം അറിയിച്ചു.
സംശയാസ്പദമായ സാഹചര്യത്തില് കണ്ട് ഒരു മാസം മുമ്പ് ജലന്ധര് പോലീസ് അറസ്റ്റ് ചെയ്ത രവി കുമാര് കപൂര്ത്തല സെന്ട്രല് ജയിലില് റിമാന്ഡിലായിരുന്നു. ജയില് അധികൃതരുടെ സന്ദേശം കേട്ട് ആദ്യം അത്ഭുതപ്പെട്ട കുടുംബം, തൊട്ടടുത്ത ദിവസം ജയിലിലെത്തി നേരിട്ട് കണ്ട് രവി കുമാര് ജീവനോടെയുണ്ടെന്ന് ഉറപ്പുവരുത്തുകയായിരുന്നു.

Fifteen days after his family mistook another body for his and cremated it, they received a phone call informing them that the youth, Ravi Kumar, was alive and in jail. Ravi went missing from his home on August 5. Despite extensive searches by his family, he could not be found.
Following the unsuccessful search, the family lodged a missing person complaint at the Kapurthala City Police Station on August 11. On August 13, the police showed the family photographs of a charred body found elsewhere. The family and relatives mistakenly identified it as Ravi Kumar, after which they claimed the body and performed the final rites.
However, on September 2, an official from the Kapurthala Central Jail called Ravi Kumar's family to inform them that he was currently in jail.
Ravi Kumar had been arrested a month earlier by the Jalandhar police under suspicious circumstances and was placed in remand at the Kapurthala Central Jail. Initially stunned by the call, the family visited the jail the next day and confirmed in person that Ravi Kumar was indeed alive.
