ദുബായ് : ഭരണകൂടത്തിനെതിരായ പ്രക്ഷോഭത്തില്‍ പങ്കെടുത്തതിന് ഇറാനില്‍ ഇരട്ട സഹോദരിമാരില്‍ ഒരാള്‍ക്കു വധശിക്ഷയും മറ്റെയാള്‍ക്ക് 25 വര്‍ഷത്തെ തടവുശിക്ഷയും വിധിച്ചു. ഭരണകൂട വിരുദ്ധ സമരത്തില്‍ പങ്കെടുത്തവരെ തിരഞ്ഞുപിടിച്ചു വേട്ടയാടുന്നതിന്റെ ഭാഗമായാണ് ഈ നടപടി.

19 വയസ്സുള്ള താരനെ റഹീമി, റൊമിന റഹീമി എന്നീ ഇരട്ട സഹോദരിമാര്‍ ഇറാനിലെ ഇസ്ഫഹാനില്‍ നടന്ന വ്യാപകമായ ഗവണ്‍മെന്റ് വിരുദ്ധ തെരുവ് പ്രക്ഷോഭങ്ങളില്‍ പങ്കെടുത്തതിനെ തുടര്‍ന്ന് അറസ്റ്റിലാവുകയായിരുന്നു. താരനെ റഹീമിക്കു വധശിക്ഷ വിധിച്ചു. റൊമിന റഹീമിക്ക് 25 മുതല്‍ 36 വര്‍ഷം വരെ നീളുന്ന ദീര്‍ഘകാല തടവുശിക്ഷയും വിധിച്ചു.

അര്‍ദ്ധരാത്രിയില്‍ മുഖംമൂടി ധരിച്ച ഇസ്ലാമിക് റെവല്യൂഷണറി ഗാര്‍ഡ് കോര്‍ സേനയാണ് ഇവരെ കിടപ്പുമുറിയില്‍ നിന്ന് കസ്റ്റഡിയിലെടുത്തത്. തുടര്‍ന്ന് ഏകദേശം നാല് മാസത്തോളം ഇവരെക്കുറിച്ച് ഒരു വിവരവുമില്ലായിരുന്നു.

തലയില്‍ സഞ്ചിയിട്ടു മറച്ചാണ് സഹോദരിമാരെ കൊണ്ടുപോയത്. ഇവരുടെ അമ്മ മര്‍സിയ നൂര്‍മുഹമ്മദി  പ്രാദേശിക ആശുപത്രികളിലും കോടതികളിലും തടവുക കേന്ദ്രങ്ങളിലും തിരച്ചില്‍ നടത്തുമ്പോഴും നാല് മാസത്തോളം കുടുംബത്തിന് ഇവരെക്കുറിച്ച് ഒരു വിവരവും ലഭിച്ചില്ല.

മേയ് മാസത്തില്‍ ഇവര്‍ക്ക് മക്കളെ കാണാന്‍ അനുവാദം ലഭിച്ചു. എന്നാല്‍ ക്രൂരമായ മര്‍ദ്ദനമേറ്റ് ശരീരമാസകലം പരിക്കുകളും മുഖത്ത് വീക്കവുമുള്ള മക്കളെ അമ്മയ്ക്ക് തിരിച്ചറിയാന്‍ കഴിഞ്ഞില്ല. 

ഇസ്ഫഹാനിലെ ദൗലതാബാദ് ജയിലില്‍ ഇരുമക്കളെയും തിരിച്ചറിയാന്‍ പോലും കഴിയാത്ത അവസ്ഥയിലായിരുന്നുവെന്ന് അമ്മ പറഞ്ഞു. അവരുടെ തകര്‍ന്ന പാദങ്ങള്‍ കണ്ട് അമ്മ കരഞ്ഞു. കൈമുട്ടുകള്‍ ഒടിഞ്ഞിരുന്നു. വിരലുകളിലെ അസ്ഥികള്‍ വരെ പൊട്ടിയിരുന്നു. മുഖമാകെ മുറിവുകളായിരുന്നു. സെല്ലിന്റെ നിലത്തൂടെ വലിച്ചിഴച്ചതിനെ തുടര്‍ന്ന് മുടി കൊഴിഞ്ഞുപോയിരുന്നു.

റൊമിന റഹീമി

മനുഷ്യാവകാശ സംഘടനകളുടെയും കുടുംബാംഗങ്ങളുടെയും റിപ്പോര്‍ട്ടുകള്‍ പ്രകാരം സഹോദരിമാര്‍ ഏകാന്തതടവിനും ലൈംഗിക അതിക്രമങ്ങള്‍ക്കും ഇരയായി. റൊമിനയെ അവളുടെ മുന്നിലിട്ട് ജയില്‍ ഗാര്‍ഡുകള്‍ ബലാത്സംഗം ചെയ്യുമെന്ന് ഭീഷണിപ്പെടുത്തിയാണ് താരനെയില്‍ നിന്ന് കുറ്റസമ്മത പത്രത്തില്‍ ഒപ്പുവയ്പ്പിച്ചതെന്ന് പറയപ്പെടുന്നു.

ഇസ്ഫഹാന്‍ റെവല്യൂഷണറി കോടതിക്ക് മുമ്പാകെയുള്ള വിചാരണയില്‍ സാധാരണ നിയമനടപടികളോ നീതിയോ പാലിക്കപ്പെട്ടില്ല. അവരുടെ അമ്മയെ കോടതിയില്‍ പ്രവേശിക്കുന്നതില്‍ നിന്ന് വിലക്കി. ഇരട്ട സഹോദരിമാര്‍ ഏതെങ്കിലും തരത്തിലുള്ള അക്രമങ്ങളില്‍ പങ്കെടുത്തതായി തെളിയിക്കുന്ന ഒരു തെളിവും ഹാജരാക്കിയിട്ടില്ലെന്നും, കഠിനമായ പീഡനത്തിലൂടെയാണ് തന്നില്‍ നിന്ന് കുറ്റസമ്മതം എടുത്തതെന്ന് താരനെ കോടതിയില്‍ മൊഴി നല്‍കിയെന്നും പ്രതിഭാഗം അഭിഭാഷകര്‍ പ്രസ്താവിച്ചു. 'ദൈവത്തിനെതിരെയുള്ള ശത്രുത', 'രാജ്യ സുരക്ഷയ്‌ക്കെതിരായ ഒത്തുചേരലും ഗൂഢാലോചനയും' തുടങ്ങിയ കുറ്റങ്ങള്‍ ചുമത്തി മറ്റ് ചിലര്‍ക്കൊപ്പമാണ് ഇവര്‍ക്കെതിരെ കേസെടുത്തത്.

താരനെയുടെ വധശിക്ഷ ചോദ്യം ചെയ്യുന്നതിനായി പ്രതിഭാഗം അഭിഭാഷകര്‍ അപ്പീല്‍ നല്‍കാനുള്ള സമയപരിധിക്കുള്ളില്‍ വേഗത്തില്‍ പ്രവര്‍ത്തിക്കുകയാണ്. മനുഷ്യാവകാശ സംഘടനകളും വിദേശത്തുള്ള കുടുംബാംഗങ്ങളും അന്താരാഷ്ട്രതലത്തില്‍ ഇടപെടല്‍ വേണമെന്ന് ആവശ്യപ്പെടുന്നുണ്ട്. അറസ്റ്റിലാകുമ്പോള്‍ ഇരട്ട സഹോദരിമാര്‍ ഹൈസ്‌കൂളില്‍ പഠിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു. 

കോടതിയുടെ തീരുമാനങ്ങള്‍ മനസ്സിലാകുന്നില്ലെന്നും ഇറാന്‍ സ്വന്തം നിയമനടപടിക്രമങ്ങള്‍ പാലിക്കുന്നുണ്ടോ എന്ന് സംശയമാണെന്നും മര്‍സിയ നൂര്‍മുഹമ്മദി പറഞ്ഞു. സാധാരണയായി വധശിക്ഷ അപ്പീല്‍ നല്‍കാന്‍ അഭിഭാഷകര്‍ക്ക് 18 ദിവസത്തെ സമയമുണ്ട്, എന്നാല്‍ സമീപകാല കേസുകളില്‍ ഈ നടപടിക്രമം പാലിച്ചിട്ടില്ലെന്ന് മര്‍സിയ ആരോപിച്ചു. മറ്റു പ്രതിഷേധക്കാരെ ഭയപ്പെടുത്താന്‍ വേണ്ടിയാണ് തരാനെക്ക് വധശിക്ഷ വിധിച്ചതെന്ന് മര്‍സിയ വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നു.

ഈ വര്‍ഷം ഇതുവരെ 500-ലധികം ആളുകളെ ഇറാന്‍ വധശിക്ഷയ്ക്ക് വിധേയമാക്കിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. ഇതില്‍ കുറഞ്ഞത് 29 പേര്‍ ജനുവരിയിലെ പ്രതിഷേധങ്ങളുമായി ബന്ധമുള്ളവരാണ്. കൊല്ലപ്പെട്ടവരില്‍ 16 സ്ത്രീകളുമുണ്ട്.

Dubai: In Iran, as part of a targeted crackdown on anti-government protesters, twin sisters who participated in demonstrations have been sentenced—one to death and the other to 25 years in prison.

The 19-year-old twin sisters, Taraneh Rahimi and Romina Rahimi, were arrested following their participation in widespread anti-government street protests in Isfahan, Iran. Taraneh Rahimi was sentenced to death, while Romina Rahimi received a lengthy prison sentence ranging from 25 to 36 years.

The sisters were taken into custody from their bedroom in the middle of the night by masked Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces. Following the arrest, their family received no information about their whereabouts for nearly four months.

The sisters were taken away with bags covering their heads. Their mother, Marziyeh Noor-Mohammadi, searched for them in local hospitals, courts, and detention centers, but the family remained without any news for four months.

In May, the mother was finally granted permission to see her children. However, due to severe beatings, widespread bodily injuries, and facial swelling, she was unable to recognize them initially.

The mother stated that both her daughters were in an unrecognizable state inside the Dowlatabad Prison in Isfahan. She wept upon seeing their broken feet. Their elbows were broken, the bones in their fingers were fractured, and their faces were covered in wounds. Their hair had fallen out after being dragged across the cell floor.

According to reports from human rights organizations and family members, the sisters were subjected to solitary confinement and sexual violence. It is reported that Taraneh was forced to sign a confession after prison guards threatened to rape Romina in front of her.

Standard legal procedures and justice were not followed during the trial before the Isfahan Revolutionary Court. Their mother was barred from entering the courtroom. Defense lawyers stated that no evidence was presented to prove the twin sisters participated in any form of violence, and Taraneh testified in court that her confession was extracted through severe torture. Charges including "enmity against God" and "assembly and collusion against national security" were filed against them along with several others.

Defense lawyers are acting swiftly within the appeal deadline to challenge Taraneh's death sentence. Human rights organizations and family members abroad are calling for international intervention.

The twin sisters were high school students at the time of their arrest.

Marziyeh Noor-Mohammadi expressed that she does not understand the court's decisions and questioned whether Iran is following its own legal procedures. She alleged that while lawyers typically have an 18-day window to appeal a death sentence, this procedure has not been followed in recent cases. She believes Taraneh was sentenced to death to intimidate other protesters.

Iran has executed over 500 people so far this year. Among them, at least 29 were connected to the January protests, including 16 women.
