Flash Flood and Landslide Claim 9 Lives in Kerala, 2 Missing; High Alert Issued

കോഴിക്കോട് : കേരളത്തില് തുടരുന്ന ശക്തമായ മഴയിലും ഉരുള്പൊട്ടലിലും മലവെള്ളപ്പാച്ചിലിലും പെട്ട് വിവിധ ജില്ലകളിലായി ഒമ്പതു പേര് മരിക്കുകയും രണ്ടു പേരെ കാണാതാവുകയും ചെയ്തു. മലപ്പുറം, കോട്ടയം, ഇടുക്കി ജില്ലകളിലാണ് പ്രധാനമായും ദുരന്തങ്ങള് റിപ്പോര്ട്ട് ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നത്.
മലപ്പുറത്ത് കോട്ടപ്പുഴയില് പെട്ടെന്നുണ്ടായ മലവെള്ളപ്പാച്ചിലില് ഒഴുക്കില്പ്പെട്ട അഞ്ചംഗ സംഘത്തിലെ രണ്ടുപേരുടെ മൃതദേഹങ്ങള് കണ്ടെത്തി. ഒരാളെ രക്ഷപ്പെടുത്തിയപ്പോള് രണ്ടുപേര്ക്കായി തിരച്ചില് തുടരുകയാണ്. പ്രദേശത്ത് പ്രത്യേക ദുരന്തനിവാരണ സേനയെ വിന്യസിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്.
സജാദ് (23) കുപ്പനത്ത്, വണ്ടൂര് സ്വദേശി, സ്രാമ്പിക്കല് റഹീം (30) തരിശ്, കരുവാരകുണ്ട് സ്വദേശി, അനസ് യാസീന് (25) മങ്ങാടന് ഹമീദിന്റെ മകന്, എടരിക്കോട്, കോട്ടക്കല് സ്വദേശി,
പരന്നപറമ്പന് മുഹമ്മദ് കുട്ടി (65) തിരൂര് സ്വദേശി എന്നിവരുടെ മൃതദേഹങ്ങള് കിട്ടി.
ഒരു മൃതദേഹം ഇതുവരെ തിരിച്ചറിഞ്ഞിട്ടില്ല. കണ്ടെടുത്ത മൃതദേഹങ്ങള് മഞ്ചേരി മെഡിക്കല് കോളജ് ആശുപത്രിയിലേക്ക് മാറ്റിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. കൂടാതെ, പ്രദേശവാസിയായ സജിത എന്ന സ്ത്രീയും ഒഴുക്കില്പ്പെട്ടതായി സൂചനയുണ്ട്.
ഞായറാഴ്ച വൈകിട്ട് 5 മണിയോടെയാണ് കോഴിപ്ര മലവാരത്തില് പെയ്ത ശക്തമായ മഴയില് കോട്ടപ്പുഴയില് മലവെള്ളപ്പാച്ചില് ഉണ്ടായത്. നാട്ടുകാരും അഗ്നിരക്ഷാസേനയും പൊലീസും ചേര്ന്നാണ് രക്ഷാപ്രവര്ത്തനം നടത്തിയത്.
മന്ത്രി എ.പി. അനില്കുമാര്, ആര്യാടന് ഷൗക്കത്ത് എംഎല്എ എന്നിവര് രാത്രി തന്നെ സ്ഥലത്തെത്തി. രാവിലെ തിരച്ചില് പുനരാരംഭിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ടെന്നും മുഴുവന് പേരെയും കണ്ടെത്തുന്നതുവരെ രക്ഷാപ്രവര്ത്തനം തുടരുമെന്നും മന്ത്രി എ.പി. അനില്കുമാര് അറിയിച്ചു.
കോട്ടയം വേലാത്തുശ്ശേരിയില് സ്കൂട്ടറില് യാത്ര ചെയ്യുകയായിരുന്ന ചെന്നൈ സ്വദേശിയായ 35 വയസ്സുകാരി ഉരുള്പൊട്ടലില്പ്പെട്ട് മരിച്ചു. ഒപ്പമുണ്ടായിരുന്ന സുഹൃത്തിന് പരിക്കേറ്റു.
ഇടുക്കി ജില്ലയില് വട്ടവടയില് മഴയില് നിന്ന് രക്ഷനേടാന് ഷെഡില് അഭയം പ്രാപിച്ച രണ്ടുപേര് മണ്ണിടിച്ചിലില് പെട്ട് മരിച്ചു.
കാലാവസ്ഥാ സ്ഥിതിഗതികള് മണിക്കൂര് തോറും നിരീക്ഷിക്കാനും ദുരന്തസാധ്യതയുള്ള പ്രദേശങ്ങളില് നിന്ന് ആളുകളെ മാറ്റപ്പാര്പ്പിക്കുന്നത് ഉള്പ്പെടെയുള്ള നടപടികള് സ്വീകരിക്കാനും അധികൃതര്ക്ക് നിര്ദേശം നല്കിയിട്ടുണ്ട്.
വരും മണിക്കൂറുകളിലും ശക്തമായ ഇടിമിന്നലോടു കൂടിയ മഴയ്ക്ക് സാധ്യതയുണ്ടെന്ന് കേന്ദ്ര കാലാവസ്ഥാ വകുപ്പ് മുന്നറിയിപ്പ് നല്കിയിട്ടുണ്ട്.
ബംഗാള് ഉള്ക്കടലില് രൂപപ്പെടുന്ന ന്യൂനമര്ദ്ദ സാന്നിധ്യം കാരണം കാറ്റിനും മഴയ്ക്കും സാധ്യതയുള്ളതിനാല് മലയോര മേഖലകളിലും പുഴയോരങ്ങളിലും തീരദേശങ്ങളിലും കടുത്ത ജാഗ്രത പാലിക്കാന് നിര്ദേശമുണ്ട്.

Kozhikode: Amid continuing heavy rainfall, landslides, and flash floods across various districts in Kerala, nine people have died and two others remain missing. The major casualties and damage have been reported from Malappuram, Kottayam, and Idukki districts.
In Malappuram, two bodies were recovered after a group of five was swept away by a sudden flash flood in the Kottappuzha river. While one person was rescued, search operations continue for two missing individuals. A specialized Disaster Response Force has been deployed in the area.
The deceased identified so far are:
Sajjad (23): Native of Kuppanath, Wandoor
Srambikkal Rahim (30): Native of Tarish, Karuvarakundu
Anas Yaseen (25): Son of Mangadan Hameed, native of Edarikkode, Kottakkal
Parannaparamban Muhammad Kutty (65): Native of Tirur
One body remains unidentified. The recovered bodies have been shifted to the Manjeri Medical College Hospital. Additionally, reports indicate that a local woman named Sajitha was also swept away in the floodwaters.
The flash flood in Kottappuzha was triggered around 5 PM on Sunday following heavy downpours in the Kozhippara hills. Local residents, the Fire and Rescue Services, and the Police jointly led the rescue operations.
Minister A. P. Anilkumar and Aryadan Shoukath MLA visited the site late at night. Minister A. P. Anilkumar informed that search operations resumed in the morning and will continue until everyone is located.
In Kottayam's Velathussery, a 35-year-old woman from Chennai lost her life after her scooter was hit by a landslide. Her accompanying friend sustained injuries.
In Idukki district, two people who took shelter in a shed to escape the rain died after being buried in a landslip in Vattavada.
Authorities have been directed to monitor the weather situation hourly and to take necessary measures, including evacuating people from disaster-prone areas.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that heavy rainfall accompanied by strong thunderstorms is likely to continue over the coming hours.
Due to a low-pressure system forming over the Bay of Bengal, heavy winds and rainfall are expected. Strict caution has been advised for people residing in hilly areas, riverbanks, and coastal regions.
