വാരാണസി: ഉത്തർപ്രദേശിലെ വാരാണസി വിമാനത്താവളത്തിൽ സെക്യൂരിറ്റി പരിശോധനയ്ക്കിടെ യാത്രികന്റെ ലൈസൻസുള്ള തോക്കിൽ നിന്ന് അബദ്ധത്തിൽ വെടിയുതിർന്ന് രണ്ട് പേർക്ക് പരിക്കേറ്റതായി പോലീസ് അറിയിച്ചു.

ഉത്തർപ്രദേശിലെ അസംഘഡ് സ്വദേശിയായ കമലേഷ് റായ് എന്ന യാത്രക്കാരനാണ് ഭാര്യയോടൊപ്പം എയർ ഇന്ത്യ എക്സ്പ്രസിന്റെ IX1810 വിമാനത്തിൽ മുംബൈയിലേക്ക് പോകാനായി എത്തിയത്.

സെക്യൂരിറ്റി പരിശോധനവേളയിൽ, തോക്കും വെടിയുണ്ടകളും പരിശോധിക്കുന്നതിനിടെയാണ് അബദ്ധത്തിൽ വെടിപൊട്ടിയത്. സംഭവം നടക്കുമ്പോൾ ഒരു സെക്യൂരിറ്റി ജീവനക്കാരിയുടെ കാലിലും, സമീപത്തുണ്ടായിരുന്ന മറ്റൊരു വ്യക്തിയുടെ തള്ളവിരലിലും വെടിയേറ്റു. ഇരുവരെയും ചികിത്സയ്ക്കായി സ്വകാര്യ ആശുപത്രിയിലേക്ക് മാറ്റിയതായി പോലീസ് വ്യക്തമാക്കി.

"സംഭവത്തെക്കുറിച്ച് വിവരമറിഞ്ഞ ഉടൻ ഡെപ്യൂട്ടി കമ്മീഷണർ ഓഫ് പോലീസ് (ഗോമതി സോൺ), അസിസ്റ്റന്റ് കമ്മീഷണർ ഓഫ് പോലീസ് (പിന്ദ്ര) എന്നിവരടങ്ങുന്ന മുതിർന്ന പോലീസ് ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥർ സ്ഥലത്തെത്തി. സ്ഥലം പരിശോധിച്ചു. വിഷയം ഗൗരവമായി എടുത്ത് നിയമനടപടികൾ ആരംഭിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്," എന്ന് മുതിർന്ന പോലീസ് ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥയായ നീതു കാദ്യൻ 'X'-ൽ കുറിച്ചു.

വിമാനത്താവള അധികൃതരുടെ പ്രസ്താവന: "ഇന്ന് (16.08.2026) രാവിലെ ഏകദേശം 09:30-ന് മുംബൈയിലേക്കുള്ള IX-1810 വിമാനത്തിൽ ഭാര്യയോടൊപ്പം യാത്ര ചെയ്യാനെത്തിയ വ്യക്തി തങ്ങളുടെ കൈവശം ആയുധമുണ്ടെന്ന് വ്യക്തമാക്കിയിരുന്നു. ആയുധങ്ങൾ പരിശോധിക്കുന്നതിനിടെ യാത്രക്കാരന്റെ പക്കൽ നിന്ന് ഒരു റൗണ്ട് വെടിപൊട്ടുകയും രണ്ട് AAICLAS സ്ക്രീനർമാർക്ക് പരിക്കേൽക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. ഇരുവരെയും ന്യൂ ലക്ഷ്മി ട്രോമ സെന്ററിലേക്ക് മാറ്റി. സംഭവത്തിൽ ലോക്കൽ പോലീസിനെ വിവരമറിയിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ടെന്നും അന്വേഷണം പുരോഗമിക്കുകയാണെന്നും" വിമാനത്താവള അധികൃതർ വ്യക്തമാക്കി.

ഫ്ലൈറ്റ് റഡാർ 24  നൽകുന്ന വിവരങ്ങൾ പ്രകാരം IX1810 വിമാനം നിശ്ചിത സമയത്തേക്കാൾ 14 മിനിറ്റ് വൈകിയാണ് പുറപ്പെട്ടത്. എന്നാൽ കമലേഷ് റായിയെയും ഭാര്യയെയും യാത്ര ചെയ്യാൻ അനുവദിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ടോ എന്ന് വ്യക്തമല്ല.

തോക്കുകൾ പൂർണ്ണമായും അൺലോഡ് ചെയ്തതും (വെടിയുണ്ട മാറ്റിയ അവസ്ഥയിൽ) ലോക്ക് ചെയ്ത കട്ടിയുള്ള പെട്ടിക്കുള്ളിൽ സൂക്ഷിച്ചതുമാണെങ്കിൽ നിയമപരമായി കൊണ്ടുപോകാൻ അനുവാദമുണ്ട്. കൂടാതെ കൃത്യമായ ലൈസൻസുകളും വെടിയുണ്ടകൾ പ്രത്യേകം സൂക്ഷിച്ചുവെച്ച രേഖകളും എയർലൈൻ ചെക്ക്-ഇൻ കൗണ്ടറിൽ വ്യക്തമായി വെളിപ്പെടുത്തുകയും വേണം.

Two people were injured when a passenger's licensed gun accidentally went off during a security check at the Varanasi airport in Uttar Pradesh, police said.

Kamlesh Rai, a passenger hailing from Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh, arrived with his wife to board Air India Express flight IX1810 to Mumbai.

The accidental firing occurred during the security check while inspecting the gun and ammunition. A female security staff member sustained a bullet injury to her leg, while another person nearby was hit in the thumb. Police confirmed that both injured individuals were shifted to a private hospital for treatment.

"Upon receiving information about the incident, senior police officers, including the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Gomti Zone) and the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Pindra), reached the spot and inspected the site. Taking the matter seriously, legal proceedings have been initiated," senior police officer Neetu Kadyan posted on X.

According to a statement by airport authorities: "Today (16.08.2026) around 09:30 AM, a passenger traveling with his wife on flight IX-1810 to Mumbai declared that he was carrying a weapon. During the inspection of the weapon, one round accidentally discharged from the passenger's side, injuring two AAICLAS screeners. Both were shifted to Neow Laxmi Trauma Centre. Local police have been informed of the incident and an investigation is underway."

Data from Flightradar24 shows that flight IX1810 departed 14 minutes behind its scheduled time. However, it remains unclear whether Kamlesh Rai and his wife were permitted to board the flight.

Under aviation regulations, carrying licensed firearms is legally permitted provided they are completely unloaded and locked in a hard-sided case. Passengers must also declare the weapon at the airline check-in counter along with valid licenses and documentation showing that ammunition is packed separately.
