ഏറെ പ്രതീക്ഷയോടെ എത്തിയ യാഷ് ചിത്രം ടോക്‌സിക്: എ ഫെയറി ടെയില്‍ ഫോര്‍ ഗ്രോണ്‍-അപ്‌സ് തിയറ്ററില്‍ സമ്മിശ്ര പ്രതികരണം സൃഷ്ടിക്കുന്നു. സൂപ്പര്‍സ്റ്റാര്‍ യാഷിന്റെ മാസ്സ് കോമേഴ്സ്യല്‍ ശൈലിയും സംവിധായിക ഗീതു മോഹന്‍ദാസിന്റെ കാവ്യത്മകവും കഥാപാത്ര കേന്ദ്രീകൃതവുമായ ഇന്‍ഡി സിനിമാ ശൈലിയും സമ്മേളിക്കുന്ന വളരെ വ്യത്യസ്തമായ ഒരു ആക്ഷന്‍-ഡ്രാമയാണിത്.

പ്രായമായ ഗ്യാങ്സ്റ്റര്‍ രായയായും, നിയന്ത്രണമില്ലാതെ പെരുമാറുന്ന അയാളുടെ ഇളയ മകന്‍ 'ടിക്കറ്റ്' ആയും യാഷ് വളരെ തന്മയത്വത്തോടെ പകര്‍ന്നാടുന്നു. കഥാപാത്രങ്ങളുടെ ശാരീരികവും മാനസികവുമായ മാറ്റങ്ങളെ വളരെ മികച്ച രീതിയിലാണ് അദ്ദേഹം അവതരിപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്.

രാജീവ് രവിയുടെ ഛായാഗ്രഹണം ചിത്രത്തെ ദൃശ്യപരമായി വളരെ മനോഹരമാക്കുന്നു. കളര്‍ പാലറ്റുകളും പീരിയഡ് പശ്ചാത്തലവും സിനിമക്ക് മികച്ച അന്തരീക്ഷം നല്‍കുന്നു.

സ്ലോ-മോഷന്‍ ഹീറോ മാസ്സ് രംഗങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് പകരം, റോ ആന്‍ഡ് ഗ്രിറ്റി  ശൈലിയിലാണ് ആക്ഷന്‍ ഒരുക്കിയിരിക്കുന്നത്. പ്രത്യേകിച്ച് സര്‍ക്കസ് പശ്ചാത്തലത്തിലുള്ള ആംബുഷ് രംഗം.

സാധാരണ എന്റര്‍ടെയ്‌നറുകള്‍ക്ക് അപ്പുറം, തോല്‍വിയറിയാത്ത നായക സങ്കല്‍പ്പങ്ങളെ ഗീതു മോഹന്‍ദാസ് പൊളിച്ചെഴുതുന്നു. ക്ലൈമാക്‌സ് ട്വിസ്റ്റ് കഥയുടെ ഗതി തന്നെ മാറ്റുന്നു.

എന്നാല്‍, ആദ്യപകുതിയില്‍ പെട്ടെന്നുള്ള സീന്‍ മാറ്റങ്ങള്‍ കാരണം കഥാപാത്രങ്ങളുടെ വികാരങ്ങളും ലക്ഷ്യങ്ങളും പ്രേക്ഷകരിലേക്ക് എത്തിക്കാന്‍ തിരക്കഥയ്ക്ക് സാധിക്കുന്നില്ല.

കിയാറ അദ്വാനി, നയന്‍താര, ഹുമ ഖുറേഷി, താരാ സുതാരിയ തുടങ്ങി വലിയ താരനിരയുണ്ടായിട്ടും, കഥാപാത്രങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് കൃത്യമായ പ്രാധാന്യം നല്‍കാന്‍ സാധിച്ചിട്ടില്ല.

ഡയലോഗുകള്‍ പലപ്പോഴും നാടകീയമായ മോണോലോഗുകളായി അനുഭവപ്പെടുന്നു. പശ്ചാത്തല സംഗീതത്തിന്റെ അമിത ശബ്ദം കാഴ്ചക്കാരന് ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടുണ്ടാക്കിയേക്കാം.

വാണിജ്യ സിനിമയും സൈക്കോളജിക്കല്‍ ആര്‍ട്ട് സിനിമയും തമ്മിലുള്ള ഒരു ധീരമായ പരീക്ഷണമാണ് 'ടോക്‌സിക്'. ദൃശ്യമികവിലും യാഷിന്റെ അഭിനയത്തിലും ചിത്രം മുന്നിട്ടുനില്‍ക്കുമ്പോഴും, എഡിറ്റിംഗിലെ പോരായ്മകളും വൈകാരികമായ ബന്ധമില്ലായ്മയും സിനിമയെ പൂര്‍ണ്ണതയില്‍ എത്തുന്നതില്‍ നിന്ന് തടയുന്നു. ഒരു സാധാരണ മാസ് ആക്ഷന്‍ സിനിമ പ്രതീക്ഷിക്കുന്നവരേക്കാള്‍ പരീക്ഷണാത്മക സിനിമകളെ ഇഷ്ടപ്പെടുന്നവര്‍ക്ക് ഇത് മികച്ചൊരു അനുഭവം ആയിരിക്കും.

The highly anticipated Yash-starrer Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-ups is receiving a mixed response in theaters. The film is a distinctly different action-drama that blends superstar Yash's mass-commercial style with director Geetu Mohandas's poetic, character-driven indie filmmaking style.

Unlike typical gangster movies that glorify the hero like K.G.F, this can be described as an anti-hero study and psychological analysis. However, theater reactions clearly indicate that the conflict between commercial expectations and an experimental art-house style has created divided opinions among the audience.

Action Sequences: Instead of slow-motion hero "mass" moments, the action is staged in a raw and gritty fashion, particularly the ambush sequence set against a circus backdrop.

Direction: Moving beyond standard entertainers, Geetu Mohandas deconstructs the invincible hero trope. The climax twist completely shifts the narrative's direction.

Drawbacks

Pacing & Screenplay: Abrupt scene transitions in the first half prevent the screenplay from establishing the characters' emotions and motivations effectively.

Underutilized Ensemble: Despite a stellar cast featuring Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi, and Tara Sutaria, the film fails to give adequate prominence to their characters.

Audio & Dialogue: Dialogues often feel like dramatic monologues, and the overly loud background score may disrupt the viewing experience.

Verdict

Toxic is a bold experiment bridging commercial cinema and psychological art-house filmmaking. While it excels in visual splendor and Yash’s stellar performance, flaws in editing and a lack of emotional resonance keep the film from achieving perfection. It offers a far better experience for those who appreciate experimental cinema rather than those expecting a routine mass action movie.
