തൃണമൂൽ അധ്യക്ഷ മമതാ ബാനർജി മുഖ്യമന്ത്രിയായിരുന്നപ്പോൾ ആശിഷ് ബാനർജി ഡെപ്യൂട്ടി സ്പീക്കറായി സേവനമനുഷ്ഠിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. രാംപൂർഹാട്ടിൽ നിന്നുള്ള അഞ്ചുതവണ എം.എൽ.എ ആയിരുന്നു അദ്ദേഹം.

കൊൽക്കത്ത: പശ്ചിമ ബംഗാൾ നിയമസഭ മുൻ ഡെപ്യൂട്ടി സ്പീക്കർ ആശിഷ് ബാനർജിയെ ബീർഭൂം ജില്ലയിലെ രാംപൂർഹാട്ടിലുള്ള വസതിക്ക് സമീപത്തെ തൃണമൂൽ കോൺഗ്രസ് ഓഫീസിൽ ഇന്ന് രാവിലെ തൂങ്ങിമരിച്ച നിലയിൽ കണ്ടെത്തി. മൃതദേഹം പോസ്റ്റ്‌മോർട്ടത്തിനായി അയച്ചതായി പോലീസ് അറിയിച്ചു.

മമതാ ബാനർജി മുഖ്യമന്ത്രിയായിരുന്ന കാലത്ത് ആശിഷ് ബാനർജി ഡെപ്യൂട്ടി സ്പീക്കറായി പ്രവർത്തിച്ചിരുന്നു. രാംപൂർഹാട്ടിൽ നിന്നുള്ള അഞ്ചുതവണ എം.എൽ.എ ആയിരുന്നു അദ്ദേഹം.

മൃതദേഹത്തിന് സമീപത്തുനിന്ന് ഒരു കൈയെഴുത്തു കുറിപ്പും ലഭിച്ചതായി പ്രാദേശിക റിപ്പോർട്ടുകൾ വ്യക്തമാക്കുന്നു. "എന്റെ മരണത്തിന് ആരും ഉത്തരവാദികളല്ല" എന്ന് കുറിപ്പിൽ പറയുന്നു.

രാഷ്ട്രീയത്തിലേക്കുള്ള തന്റെ പ്രവേശത്തിൽ ഖേദം പ്രകടിപ്പിച്ച ആശിഷ് ബാനർജി, കുടുംബാംഗങ്ങളോട് രാഷ്ട്രീയത്തിൽ ഇറങ്ങരുതെന്ന് ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ടതായും റിപ്പോർട്ടുകളുണ്ട്. അഴിമതിയിൽ പങ്കില്ലെന്ന് അവകാശപ്പെട്ട അദ്ദേഹം, പാർട്ടിയുടെ തെറ്റായ നടപടികളെ അംഗീകരിക്കാൻ കഴിഞ്ഞില്ലെങ്കിലും അതിനെതിരെ പ്രതികരിക്കാൻ തനിക്ക് സാധിച്ചില്ലെന്നും കുറിപ്പിൽ വ്യക്തമാക്കിയിട്ടുണ്ട്.

താരാപീഠ് രാംപൂർഹാട്ട് ഡെവലപ്‌മെന്റ് അതോറിറ്റിയിൽ (ടി.ആർ.ഡി.എ) തനിക്ക് യഥാർത്ഥ അധികാരങ്ങളൊന്നും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ലെന്നും, തന്നെ ചെറുതാക്കി കാണിക്കാൻ ശ്രമങ്ങൾ നടന്നതായും ആശിഷ് ബാനർജി കത്തിൽ ആരോപിച്ചു.

"ജനറൽ ബോഡി യോഗങ്ങളിൽ പങ്കെടുക്കുന്നതല്ലാതെ ടി.ആർ.ഡി.എയിൽ എനിക്ക് മറ്റ് ഉത്തരവാദിത്തങ്ങളൊന്നും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ല. ഞാൻ ടെൻഡർ കമ്മിറ്റിയിൽ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ല. ചെക്കുകളിൽ ഒപ്പിടാൻ എനിക്ക് അധികാരമില്ലായിരുന്നു. പ്ലാനുകൾ അംഗീകരിക്കുന്നതിലോ 'നോ ഒബ്ജക്ഷൻ' സർട്ടിഫിക്കറ്റുകൾ നൽകുന്നതിലോ ഞാൻ പങ്കാളിയായിരുന്നില്ല. ഈ വിഷയങ്ങളിലൊന്നും ആരും എന്നോട് ആലോചിച്ചിട്ടില്ല. 

എന്നെ അപമാനിക്കാൻ നടത്തിയ നീക്കങ്ങളെ ഞാൻ അപലപിക്കുന്നു. ഇന്ന്, രാഷ്ട്രീയത്തിലേക്ക് വന്നത് ഒരു തെറ്റായിരുന്നു എന്ന് എനിക്ക് തോന്നുന്നു. എന്റെ കുടുംബത്തിലെ ചെറുപ്പക്കാരോട് രാഷ്ട്രീയത്തിൽ ചേരരുതെന്നും അവരവരുടെ തൊഴിലുകളിൽ ശ്രദ്ധ കേന്ദ്രീകരിക്കണമെന്നും ഞാൻ ഉപദേശിക്കുന്നു," എന്ന് കുറിപ്പിൽ പറയുന്നു.

ഈ വർഷം ആദ്യം നടന്ന സംസ്ഥാന തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പിൽ ബി.ജെ.പിയുടെ ധ്രുവ സാഹയോട് അദ്ദേഹം പരാജയപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നു. രാംപൂർഹാട്ടിലെ ഹട്ടാലപാറ പ്രദേശത്തായിരുന്നു അദ്ദേഹം താമസിച്ചിരുന്നത്. മരണവാർത്ത അറിഞ്ഞ് വലിയൊരു ജനക്കൂട്ടം പാർട്ടി ഓഫീസിന് മുന്നിൽ തടിച്ചുകൂടി.

മമതാ ബാനർജി ആദ്യമായി ഭരണത്തിലെത്തിയതുമുതൽ ബംഗാൾ വിദ്യാഭ്യാസ, കൃഷി മന്ത്രിയായും ആശിഷ് ബാനർജി സേവനമനുഷ്ഠിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്.

അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ മരണവാർത്ത പുറത്തുവന്നതിന് പിന്നാലെ, തൃണമൂൽ എം.പി അഭിഷേക് ബാനർജി എക്‌സിലെ (X) പോസ്റ്റിലൂടെ ആശിഷ് ബാനർജിക്കെതിരെ ദുഷ്പ്രചരണം നടത്തിയവരെ വിമർശിച്ചു. "അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ അവസാന കുറിപ്പ്, താൻ നേരിടേണ്ടി വന്ന നിരന്തരമായ അപവാദ പ്രചാരണങ്ങളെക്കുറിച്ച് ഗൗരവമേറിയതും ആശങ്കാജനകവുമായ ചോദ്യങ്ങൾ ഉയർത്തുന്നുണ്ട്. 

സത്യം പുറത്തുവരുന്നതിന് മുമ്പ് ആരോപണങ്ങൾ പെരുപ്പിച്ചു കാണിക്കുകയും പ്രശസ്തി ചോദ്യം ചെയ്യപ്പെടുകയും പൊതുജന മധ്യത്തിൽ വ്യക്തികൾ അപലപിക്കപ്പെടുകയും ചെയ്യുന്ന രാഷ്ട്രീയത്തിന്റെ പ്രത്യാഘാതങ്ങളെക്കുറിച്ച് ബി.ജെ.പിയും മാധ്യമങ്ങളുടെ ഒരു വിഭാഗവും ചിന്തിക്കേണ്ടതുണ്ട്," എന്ന് അദ്ദേഹം പറഞ്ഞു.

കഴിഞ്ഞ ജൂണിൽ തൃണമൂലിന്റെ ബീർഭൂം ജില്ലാ കോർ കമ്മിറ്റി ചെയർമാൻ സ്ഥാനത്തുനിന്ന് ആശിഷ് ബാനർജി രാജിവെച്ചിരുന്നെങ്കിലും, പാർട്ടിയുടെ സാധാരണ അംഗമായി തുടരുമെന്ന് പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചിരുന്നു.

ഏറ്റവും ഒടുവിൽ നടന്ന തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പിൽ ബീർഭൂമിലെ 11 മണ്ഡലങ്ങളിൽ 6 എണ്ണത്തിലും ബി.ജെ.പി വിജയിച്ചിരുന്നു. 2021-ൽ ഇതേ ജില്ലയിൽ ബി.ജെ.പിയുടെ ഒരു സീറ്റിനെതിരെ 10 സീറ്റുകൾ തൃണമൂൽ നേടിയിരുന്നു. 15 വർഷത്തെ ഭരണത്തിന് ശേഷം തൃണമൂൽ പരാജയപ്പെട്ടതിനെത്തുടർന്ന് ബംഗാൾ രാഷ്ട്രീയത്തിൽ വലിയ മാറ്റങ്ങൾ സംഭവിക്കുന്നതിനിടയിലാണ് ഇന്നത്തെ സംഭവം. മുൻ തൃണമൂൽ എം.എൽ.എമാരും നേതാക്കളും അഴിമതിയുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട അന്വേഷണങ്ങളും അറസ്റ്റുകളും നേരിടുന്നുണ്ട്.

Kolkata: Former West Bengal Assembly Deputy Speaker Ashish Banerjee was found hanging this morning at a Trinamool Congress office near his residence in Rampurhat, Birbhum district. Police stated that the body has been sent for a post-mortem examination.

Ashish Banerjee served as Deputy Speaker during Mamata Banerjee's tenure as Chief Minister. He was a five-time MLA representing Rampurhat.

Local reports indicate that a handwritten note was recovered from near the body. "No one is responsible for my death," the note stated.

Expressing regret over his entry into politics, Ashish Banerjee reportedly urged his family members not to join politics. While claiming he had no involvement in corruption, he mentioned in the note that although he could not accept the party's wrongdoings, he was unable to protest against them.

In the letter, Ashish Banerjee alleged that he possessed no real authority in the Tarapith Rampurhat Development Authority (TRDA) and that attempts were made to belittle him.

"Apart from attending General Body meetings, I had no other responsibilities in the TRDA. I was not part of the tender committee. I had no authority to sign cheques. I was not involved in approving plans or issuing 'No Objection' certificates. No one ever consulted me on these matters.

I condemn the actions taken to malign me. Today, I feel that entering politics was a mistake. I advise the younger generation in my family not to join politics and to focus on their respective professions," the note read.

He was defeated by BJP's Dhruba Saha in the state elections held earlier this year. He resided in the Hattalapara area of Rampurhat. Upon hearing the news of his death, a large crowd gathered outside the party office.

Ashish Banerjee had also served as Bengal's Education and Agriculture Minister since Mamata Banerjee first came to power.

Following the news of his death, Trinamool MP Abhishek Banerjee criticized those who ran a smear campaign against Ashish Banerjee via a post on X. "His final note raises serious and troubling questions about the sustained smear campaign he endured. The BJP and a section of the media must reflect on the consequences of a politics where allegations are amplified, reputations are put on trial, and individuals are condemned in the court of public opinion before the truth comes out," he said.

Last June, Ashish Banerjee had resigned from the post of Chairman of Trinamool's Birbhum District Core Committee, though he announced he would remain a general member of the party.

In the most recent elections, the BJP won 6 out of 11 constituencies in Birbhum. In 2021, Trinamool had won 10 seats against BJP's single seat in the same district. This incident comes amid major political shifts in Bengal following Trinamool's defeat after 15 years in power. Several former Trinamool MLAs and leaders are currently facing corruption-related investigations and arrests.
