Heavy Rain and Widespread Landslides in Kerala: 3 Dead, Red Alert Issued for 8 Districts
തിരുവനന്തപുരം: സംസ്ഥാനത്ത് കനത്ത മഴ തുടരുന്നതിനിടെ വിവിധ ജില്ലകളില് വ്യാപക നാശനഷ്ടവും വെള്ളപ്പൊക്കവും ഉരുള്പൊട്ടലും റിപ്പോര്ട്ട് ചെയ്തു. മഴക്കെടുതികളില്പെട്ട് സംസ്ഥാനത്ത് മൂന്ന് പേര് മരിച്ചു. സ്ഥിതിഗതികള് ഗുരുതരമായി തുടരുന്ന സാഹചര്യത്തില് കേന്ദ്ര കാലാവസ്ഥാ വകുപ്പ് 8 ജില്ലകളില് റെഡ് അലര്ട്ട് പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചു.
ഇടുക്കി (കുടയത്തൂര് / അടൂര്മല): പുലര്ച്ചെയുണ്ടായ ശക്തമായ ഉരുള്പൊട്ടലില് മഷിക്കല്ലേല് രവിയുടെ വീട് പൂര്ണ്ണമായും മണ്ണടിഞ്ഞു. രവിയുടെ ഭാര്യ സുമതിയെ സംഭവസ്ഥലത്തുനിന്ന് 200 മീറ്ററോളം മാറി മരിച്ച നിലയില് കണ്ടെത്തി. അപകടത്തില്പ്പെട്ട രവിയെയും മകനെയും നാട്ടുകാര് രക്ഷപ്പെടുത്തി തൊടുപുഴയിലെ ആശുപത്രിയില് പ്രവേശിപ്പിച്ചു.
ഇടുക്കി (വാഗമണ്): കോലാഹലമേട്ടില് വീടിനു മുകളിലേക്ക് മണ്ണിടിഞ്ഞുവീണ് വൈക്കം സ്വദേശി പ്രഭാകരന് നായര് (72) മരിച്ചു.
കോട്ടയം (പൂഞ്ഞാര് തെക്കേക്കര): പയ്യാനിത്തോട്ടത്തില് വീടിനു മുകളിലേക്ക് മണ്ണും പാറക്കല്ലുകളും ഇടിഞ്ഞുവീണ് മണക്കാട്ട് ജോസഫിന് ജോണി (24) മരിച്ചു.
മറ്റ് നാശനഷ്ടങ്ങളും ഗതാഗത തടസ്സവും
ഇടുക്കി: ഏലപ്പാറ, വടക്കേമണ്ണ, പൊന്മുടി, അടിമാലി ഇരുമ്പുപാലം എന്നിവിടങ്ങളില് മണ്ണിടിച്ചിലുണ്ടായി. ഉപ്പുതറ മാതായിപ്പാറയില് പോലീസ് ജീപ്പിന് മുകളിലേക്ക് മണ്ണും കല്ലും ഇടിഞ്ഞുവീണെങ്കിലും പോലീസുകാര് അത്ഭുതകരമായി രക്ഷപ്പെട്ടു. അടിമാലിയിലും ദേശീയപാതയിലും മണ്ണും പാറയും വീണ് ഗതാഗതം ഭാഗികമായി തടസ്സപ്പെട്ടു.
കോട്ടയം: മൂന്നിലവ്, തീക്കോയി, കൂട്ടിക്കല്, കൊടുങ്ങ എന്നിവിടങ്ങളില് ശക്തമായ ഉരുള്പൊട്ടലുണ്ടായി. മീനച്ചിലാറും മണിമലയാറും കവിഞ്ഞൊഴുകിയതിനെ തുടര്ന്ന് ഈരാറ്റുപേട്ട, പാലാ, മുണ്ടക്കയം, കാഞ്ഞിരപ്പള്ളി മേഖലകള് വെള്ളത്തിലായി. ഈരാറ്റുപേട്ട-വാഗമണ്, കോട്ടയം-കുമിളി റോഡുകളില് ഗതാഗതം സ്തംഭിച്ചു.
പത്തനംതിട്ട: തണ്ണിത്തോട്, കോന്നി എന്നിവിടങ്ങളില് ഉരുള്പൊട്ടല് സംശയിക്കുന്നു. റാന്നി ടൗണിലും പേട്ട ജംഗ്ഷനിലും പമ്പാനദി കവിഞ്ഞ് വെള്ളം കയറി. മൂഴിയാര് അണക്കെട്ടില് റെഡ് അലര്ട്ട് പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചു.
പാലക്കാട്: നെല്ലിയാമ്പതി ചുരം പാതയില് മരം കടപുഴകി വീണ് ഗതാഗതം തടസ്സപ്പെട്ടു. നെല്ലിയാമ്പതി, മാലമ്പുഴ കവ തുടങ്ങിയ വിനോദസഞ്ചാര കേന്ദ്രങ്ങളിലേക്ക് സഞ്ചാരികള്ക്ക് പ്രവേശന വിലക്കേര്പ്പെടുത്തി.
മറ്റ് ജില്ലകള്: തിരുവനന്തപുരത്ത് പൊന്മുടി പാതയില് മണ്ണിടിച്ചിലിനെ തുടര്ന്ന് പ്രവേശനം അടച്ചു. അരുവിക്കര, നെയ്യാര് ഡാമുകളുടെ ഷട്ടറുകള് ഉയര്ത്തി. കോഴിക്കോട്, കൊല്ലം, കണ്ണൂര്, മലപ്പുറം ജില്ലകളിലും കനത്ത മഴയില് വീടുകള്ക്കും മതിലുകള്ക്കും കേടുപാടുകള് സംഭവിക്കുകയും വെള്ളക്കെട്ട് രൂപപ്പെടുകയും ചെയ്തു.
ജാഗ്രതാ നിര്ദ്ദേശവും മുന്നറിയിപ്പും
റെഡ് അലര്ട്ട് (8 ജില്ലകളില്): പത്തനംതിട്ട, കോട്ടയം, ഇടുക്കി, മലപ്പുറം, കോഴിക്കോട്, വയനാട്, കണ്ണൂര്, കാസര്കോട്.
മത്സ്യത്തൊഴിലാളികള്ക്ക് വിലക്ക്: കടല് പ്രക്ഷുബ്ധമാകാനും ഉയര്ന്ന തിരമാലകള്ക്കും സാധ്യതയുള്ളതിനാല് മത്സ്യത്തൊഴിലാളികള് കടലില് പോകരുതെന്ന് കര്ശന മുന്നറിയിപ്പുണ്ട്.
ഓഗസ്റ്റ് 4 വരെ സംസ്ഥാനത്ത് മിതമായതോ നേരിയതോ ആയ മഴ തുടരാന് സാധ്യതയുണ്ടെന്ന് കാലാവസ്ഥാ വകുപ്പ് അറിയിച്ചു.
വിദ്യാഭ്യാസ സ്ഥാപനങ്ങള്ക്ക് അവധി
കനത്ത മഴയും വെള്ളക്കെട്ടും കണക്കിലെടുത്ത് കോട്ടയം, ഇടുക്കി, പത്തനംതിട്ട, വയനാട്, മലപ്പുറം, ആലപ്പുഴ, പാലക്കാട്, കോഴിക്കോട്, കണ്ണൂര് എന്നീ ജില്ലകളിലെ പ്രൊഫഷണല് കോളേജുകള്, അങ്കണവാടികള്, റ്റിയൂഷന് സെന്ററുകള് ഉള്പ്പെടെയുള്ള എല്ലാ വിദ്യാഭ്യാസ സ്ഥാപനങ്ങള്ക്കും ജില്ലാ കളക്ടര്മാര് അവധി പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചു. (മുന്കൂട്ടി നിശ്ചയിച്ച പൊതുപരീക്ഷകള്ക്കും സര്വകലാശാല പരീക്ഷകള്ക്കും മാറ്റമുണ്ടാകില്ല).
എന്.ഡി.ആര്.എഫ്, ഫയര്ഫോഴ്സ്, പോലീസ്, റവന്യൂ സംഘങ്ങള് എന്നിവരുടെ നേതൃത്വത്തില് ദുരന്തബാധിത പ്രദേശങ്ങളില് രക്ഷാപ്രവര്ത്തനവും തെരച്ചിലും തുടരുകയാണ്.

Thiruvananthapuram: Widespread damage, flooding, and landslides have been reported across various districts as heavy rains continue to lash the state. Three people have died in rain-related incidents. With the situation remaining critical, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red Alert for eight districts.
Major Incidents and Casualties
Idukki (Kudayathoor / Adoor Mala): A massive landslide in the early hours completely buried the house of Mashikkallel Ravi. His wife, Sumathi, was found dead approximately 200 meters away from the site. Locals rescued Ravi and his son, who were subsequently admitted to a hospital in Thodupuzha.
Idukki (Vagamon): Prabhakaran Nair (72), a native of Vaikom, died at Kolahalamedu when soil collapsed onto the house he was staying in.
Kottayam (Poonjar Thekkekara): Josephin Joni (24) of Manakkatt died at Payyanithottam after mud and boulders collapsed onto his house.
Other Damages and Traffic Disruptions
Idukki: Landslides occurred in Elappara, Vadakkemanna, Ponmudi, and Adimali Irumbupalam. At Mathaippara in Upputhara, mud and stones collapsed onto a police jeep, though the officers narrowly escaped unharmed. Soil and rocks falling onto the national highway at Adimali partially disrupted traffic.
Kottayam: Severe landslides were reported in Moonnilavu, Teekoy, Koottickal, and Kodunga. As the Meenachil and Manimala rivers overflowed, Erattupetta, Pala, Mundakkayam, and Kanjirappally areas were inundated. Traffic came to a standstill on the Erattupetta–Vagamon and Kottayam–Kumily routes.
Pathanamthitta: Landslides are suspected in Thannithode and Konni. The Pamba River overflowed, flooding Ranni town and Petta Junction. A red alert has been sounded for the Moozhiyar Dam.
Palakkad: Traffic was disrupted on the Nelliampathi Ghat Road due to uprooted trees. Entry for tourists has been banned at major tourist destinations, including Nelliampathi and Malampuzha Kava.
Other Districts: Entry to Ponmudi in Thiruvananthapuram was closed following landslides along the route. The shutters of the Aruvikkara and Neyyar dams have been raised. Heavy rain caused waterlogging and damaged houses and compound walls across Kozhikode, Kollam, Kannur, and Malappuram districts.
Safety Guidelines and Weather Warnings
Red Alert (8 Districts): Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod.
Ban on Fishing: Fishermen have been strictly advised not to venture into the sea due to rough sea conditions and high waves.
The Meteorological Department informed that moderate to light rain is likely to continue across the state until August 4.
Educational Institutions Closed
In light of the heavy rainfall and waterlogging, District Collectors have declared a holiday for all educational institutions—including professional colleges, Anganwadis, and tuition centers—in Kottayam, Idukki, Pathanamthitta, Wayanad, Malappuram, Alappuzha, Palakkad, Kozhikode, and Kannur districts. (Previously scheduled public and university examinations will proceed without change).
Rescue and search operations are ongoing in disaster-affected areas led by teams from the NDRF, Fire and Rescue Services, Police, and Revenue authorities.
