Disrespect Shown to the Remains of Rescue Worker Rajesh Who Died After Giving Away His Life Jacket: Payyanur Tehsildar Suspended
കണ്ണൂര്/തിരുവനന്തപുരം: കണ്ണൂര് ചെറുപുഴ മീന്തുള്ളിയില് പ്രളയജലത്തില് ഒറ്റപ്പെട്ടുപോയ ആളെ രക്ഷിക്കുന്നതിനിടെ സ്വന്തം ലൈഫ് ജാക്കറ്റ് ഊരിനല്കി ഒഴുക്കില്പ്പെട്ട് വീരമൃത്യു വരിച്ച രക്ഷാപ്രവര്ത്തകന് ആര്. രാജേഷിന്റെ (38) ഭൗതികശരീരത്തോട് ഭരണകൂടം ഗുരുതര അനാദരവ് കാട്ടിയതായി പരാതി.
സംഭവത്തില് ജനരോഷം ശക്തമായതിനെത്തുടര്ന്ന് ഉത്തരവാദിയായ പയ്യന്നൂര് തഹസില്ദാര് പോള് കെ.പിയെ സസ്പെന്ഡ് ചെയ്യാന് മന്ത്രി നിര്ദേശം നല്കി. തിരുവനന്തപുരം കല്ലിയൂര് സ്വദേശിയും വാട്ടര് റെപ്പലിംഗ് ട്രെയിനറുമായ രാജേഷ് മുന്പ് വയനാട് ചൂരല്മല, പെട്ടിമുടി ദുരന്തങ്ങളിലും സജീവമായി രക്ഷാപ്രവര്ത്തനം നടത്തിയ വ്യക്തിയായിരുന്നു.
കണ്ണൂര് പരിയാരം ഗവ. മെഡിക്കല് കോളേജില് പോസ്റ്റ്മോര്ട്ടം നടപടികള് പൂര്ത്തിയാക്കിയ ശേഷം തിരുവനന്തപുരത്തേക്കുള്ള ദീര്ഘദൂര യാത്രയ്ക്കായി ഫ്രീസര് സൗകര്യമില്ലാത്ത സാധാരണ ആംബുലന്സിലാണ് മൃതദേഹം കയറ്റി അയച്ചത്. രണ്ടു ദിവസത്തോളം വെള്ളത്തില് കിടന്നതിനാല് മൃതദേഹം അഴുകിത്തുടങ്ങിയിരുന്നു. എംബാം ചെയ്യാനോ ഫ്രീസര് ആംബുലന്സ് ഏര്പ്പാടാക്കാനോ ബന്ധുക്കളും നാട്ടുകാരും ജനപ്രതിനിധികളും ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ടെങ്കിലും ഫണ്ടില്ലെന്ന കാരണം പറഞ്ഞ് അധികൃതര് അപേക്ഷ നിരസിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു.

അഡിഷണല് ജില്ലാ മജിസ്ട്രേറ്റിന്റെ (എഡിഎം) നേതൃത്വത്തില് വകുപ്പുതല അന്വേഷണം നടന്നുവരുന്നു. മറ്റൊരാളുടെ ജീവന് രക്ഷിക്കാന് സ്വന്തം ജീവന് തൃണവല്ഗണിച്ച ധീരനായ രക്ഷാപ്രവര്ത്തകന്റെ ഭൗതികശരീരത്തോട് കാട്ടിയ ഈ ഗുരുതര അനാദരവിനെതിരെ സംസ്ഥാന വ്യാപകമായി കടുത്ത പ്രതിഷേധമാണ് ഉയരുന്നത്.

Kannur/Thiruvananthapuram: Serious administrative negligence and disrespect have been reported toward the mortal remains of R. Rajesh (38), a rescue worker who sacrificed his life after handing over his own life jacket to save a stranded person in the floodwaters of Minthulli, Cherupuzha, Kannur. Following intense public outrage over the incident, the Minister directed the suspension of Paul K. P., the Payyanur Tehsildar responsible for the lapse.
Rajesh, a native of Kalliyoor in Thiruvananthapuram and a water rappelling trainer, had previously played an active role in rescue operations during the Wayanad Chooralmala and Pettimudi disasters.
After completing the post-mortem procedures at the Kannur Pariyaram Government Medical College, the body was dispatched for a long-distance journey to Thiruvananthapuram in a standard ambulance lacking freezer facilities. Since the body had remained submerged in water for nearly two days, it had already begun to decompose. Although relatives, locals, and public representatives requested that the body be embalmed or transported in a freezer ambulance, officials turned down the plea citing a lack of funds.
During the journey, as the body began emitting a foul odor and leaking fluids, it had to be transferred publicly into a private freezer ambulance on the roadside at Chavakkad in Thrissur. Office bearers of the Cherupuzha River Rafting Society alleged that Payyanur Tehsildar Paul K. P. demanded ₹25,000 to arrange a freezer ambulance, stating it would only be provided if paid in cash.
Following these lapses, instructions were issued to the Land Revenue Commissioner to suspend Tehsildar Paul K. P. Kannur District Collector P. Vishnuraj ordered an investigation into the matter and sought explanations from the Medical College Principal, Superintendent, and the Tehsildar.
A departmental inquiry led by the Additional District Magistrate (ADM) is currently underway. Widespread protests have erupted across the state against the severe disrespect shown to the body of the brave rescue worker who laid down his life to save another.
