Thiruvananthapuram: The Chief Minister, Mr Oommen Chandy, on Tuesday formally rolled out a swarm of bicycles as part of the ‘Technopark - Allianz Bicycle Club: Why not Cycle for a Green Initiative' at the Technopark campus.
The ‘green drive' has been sponsored by Allianz Cornhill Information services (ACIS), an offshore facility and a captive unit of Allianz Insurance plc.
COMPANY LIVERY
The Chief Minister flagged off 55 bicycles in the ACIS colours of blue and white from Thejaswini building in the Technopark campus.
The initiative is aimed making it easier and eco-friendly the travel between buildings within the vast Technopark campus.
Any employee in the campus can register for free and rent out the bicycles at a nominal hourly rental of Rs 2.
Gents and ladies models are available, and five racks with 10 to 12 cycles each will stand parked across the campus for easy access.
PARKING PROBLEM
Parking vehicles is a big issue at the park. Running errands like going to the bank or for lunch outside the campus is a harrowing proposition for many – because someone is always waiting to usurp your precious parking space.
The ‘Why Not Cycle for a Green Environment?' initiative was conceptualised by ACIS, Technopark and the TechnoparkToday team after taking weighing in all concerns - parking woes, pollution blues, traffic congestion and the sedentary lifestyle of employees.
“With this initiative, we have taken a significant step to make our campus greener and to decongest the park,” says Mr Girish Babu, who has taken over as Chief Executive Officer at Technopark.
The philosophy-at-work for the ACIS is a quest to challenge the norm and seek better alternatives to find solutions for day to day business and social problems, says Mr Rakesh Gupta, Managing Director, ACIS.
ATHI'S BICYCLE CLUB
Athi's Bicycle Club with its unique SMS-based sharing scheme has been roped in to maintain and service the swarm of cycles.
“I hope employees of Technopark would utilise the service to the maximum and pedal their way to good health and eco-sensibility and also have fun while doing so,” said Mr Athirup, founder of the bicycle club.
Mr Mervin Alexander, former Chief Executive Officer of Technopark, was the special guest for the function. Mr M. Vasudevan, Senior Business Development Manager, Technopark, was among those who attended the same.
