റിയാദ്: സൗദി അറേബ്യയിലെ നജ്റാനില് നിര്മാണക്കമ്പനിയിലെ തൊഴിലാളികള് താമസിച്ച കെട്ടിടത്തിനു തീപിടിച്ച് മൂന്ന് മലയാളികളുള്പ്പെടെ 11 പേര് മരിച്ചു. ബൈജു രാഘവന് എന്നയാളാണ് മരിച്ചവരില് ഒരു മലയാളി.
മരിച്ചവരെല്ലാം ഇന്ത്യക്കാരാണ്. കമ്പാലന് സത്യന്, ശങ്കരന്, മുരുകാനന്ദന്, ഗൗരി ശങ്കര് ഗുപ്ത, വസീം അക്രം ഫായിസ് അഹമദ്,മുഹമ്മദ് വസീം അസീസുറഹ്മാന്, അതീഖ് അഹമദ് സമദ് അലി, തബ്രജ് ഖാന് എന്നിവരാണ് മരിച്ച മറ്റുള്ളവര്.
മൂന്നു നില കെട്ടിടത്തിലെ എസി പൊട്ടിത്തെറിച്ചതാണ് തീപിടിത്തത്തിനു കാരണമായതെന്നാണ് പ്രാഥമിക നിഗമനം.
ബുധനാഴ്ച പ്രാദേശിക സമയം പുലര്ച്ചെ നാലിനായിരുന്നു തീപിടിത്തമുണ്ടായത്. എല്ലാവരും ഉറങ്ങിക്കിടന്ന സമയമായതാണ് മരണനിരക്ക് ഉയരാന് കാരണം.
ആറു പേര്ക്ക് പരിക്കേറ്റു. അപകടത്തില്പ്പെട്ടവര് താമസിച്ചിരുന്നത് ജനാലകള് ഇല്ലാത്ത മുറിയിലാണ്. കനത്ത പുക മൂലം ശ്വാസംമുട്ടിയാണ് പതിനൊന്നു പേരും മരിച്ചത്. അന്വേഷണത്തിന് സര്ക്കാര് ഉത്തരവിട്ടു.
പഴയ കെട്ടിടത്തില് നിന്നു പുക ഉയരുന്നത് കണ്ട പട്രോള് പൊലീസ് സിവില് ഡിഫന്സില് വിവരമറിയിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു.
At least 11 people, including three Malayalees, were killed when a fire broke out at a Najran facility in Saudi Arabia.
All the dead are Indians. The deceased are Baiju Raghavan, Kambalan Sathyan, Shankaran, Murukanandan, Gauri Shankar Gupta, Wasim Akram Fayes Ahmed, Mohammed Waqeq Azizirahman, Atiq Ahmad Samad Ali and Tabbaj Khan.
The primary conclusion is that the fire in the three-storeied building as a result of short circuit in air conditioner.
The fire broke out at four in the morning on Wednesday. Six persons were injured. The victims were living in a room without windows. Eleven persons died due to heavy smoke. The government has ordered an inquiry.
Patrol Police, which witnessed the smoke rising from the old building, was reported to civil defense authorities.
